The Prince LP

Prince Prince
1979

This is my thread dedicated to Prince's masterpiece Prince. Its kind of amazing to think this album came out the year I was born (Hell I was probably conceived off of "I Wanna Be Your Lover" lol), but it still sounds so fresh 28 years later. As an 80's baby, my first memories of Prince were around the Purple Rain era when my older brother & his friends would dress up like him and throw lil concerts in our neighborhood. lol So I missed out on this album, but recently I've gone back and peeped it out and I absolutely love it. First off, the production on this album is off the hook. I love the guitars and keys Prince & the band were using on alot of the cuts on here. Songs like "Bambi" & "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad" showcase the rock edge Prince began to embrace later on Dirty Mind. He sings on the latter "and if its still good to ya, why you wanna treat me so bad?/you used to love it when Id do ya/you used to say I was the best you ever had!!!" cool Other tracks like "Sexy Dancer" & "I Wanna Be Your Lover" are funkier than an old bucket of chitlins. "I Wanna Be Your Lover" is one of Prince's slickest cuts ever and the jamming in the 2nd part of the cut is a nice treat. I also love Prince's version of "I Feel For You", especially at the 2:44 mark eyepop. Listen to that people!!! HOT!!! The LP ends with 1 of Prince's best slow cuts ever in"Its Gonna Be Lonely". Im not sure if a thread has been done for this CD already (no search), but I just wanted to show it some love and get the other orger's takes on this LP. Especially those who mightve been old enough to appreciate it at the time of its release.

Great album, great cover, loud and proud - just doin' it.
In some ways those times were less conservative and self-cocious than these times.

Great album, there's only one song I don't like and that's 'With You'. It is a terrible cover tho but somehow very fitting aswell.
