The first time I heard this song was back in 1991. I was just getting into bootlegs and b-sides. (My ignorant ass had never flipped a Prince 33-inch over. It took me maybe 6 years to find Alexa de Paris!!!)
Anyway... I listened to that song at Rutgers University in Camden, NJ in the dorm of a friend of mine who was also a HUGE prince fan. I had never heard the song. It was hypnotic! Bluesy like I had never heard Prince. Soulful like I had never heard Prince. And it exposed Prince as a versatile artist... in a way that I had never seen or thought of. So powerful... so strong... so sorrowful and painful. I remember driving home singing... "YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT CAAAAARRRRREEED FOR" lol Love the song. Brilliant! The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else! | |

This is one of his songs that simply stopped me the first time I heard it. I just sat down and listened to it, over and over. It is so moving for so many reasons. It is very emotional and atmospheric. It is a song of his I hold very close to my heart. It is like something I would write myself, if I could. | |

One of my all time fave P songs. The full version is excellent. Granted, the mix is muddy bit I believe he was going for a certain vibe and a overall sound. His guitar playing on this, much like GOD, the instrumental, is excellent. I think this is Prince's saddest song. The very end is even sad. Kinda surprised he released this, being that it sounds really personal. His playing is very heartfelt as well. He meant this shit. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz.
