Negrita, I think there is some similarity between Guitar and Fury (I actually started a thread about that a few weeks ago). Without going too deep into Fury's lines, Guitar makes it much simpler. No woman- even his wife- can come between him and his music, and he's not willing to leave it alone even long enough to save his marriage. Obviously, he would expect his woman to understand this.
This would be the key carryover verse between the 2 songs- imo...

A lot of the rest, I think, is just him kind of going off on her. "Look out, here comes ur rainy day", as if she's been "saving up" either her anger, or her money to leave him and unleash her "fury".

just some thoughts I just found the similarity in theme interesting as he never really said it so clearly before with other break-up songs, where the same issue (his workaholic tendencies) probably had a role.

Ok, maybe it's because it's late and but i think i can answer this question. (please forgive me if it's already been answered) Illusion is the state of the relationship. Doris and the guy are tricking themselves into believing what they have is somthing more than him "hipping her to the funk in exchange for the finance" or maybe it's the illusion they're casting over the people around them because they seem to know what's going on, especially by the end of the song "when doris caught him in her arms..." the "coma" part is much along the same way of "illusion" meaning...how can I put this. Something in their "relationshit" is asleep, deep asleep, maybe never to be awaken. There relationship was more like a business agreement than an acutual relationship
"she hipped him with a crib in paris, he hipped her to the funk" and "as long as she's providing chips and whips we can do this funky thing" in sort of a "let's ignore what's really happening" and as you said "pimp and circumstance" is explainable. This is one of my favorite songs on "musicology" by the way. Damn, I miss college. I don't try to interpret "reflections" i just let it wash over me. I love that song too.

I've always had a certain like for "Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance"... although I really don't like the strain I hear in his voice when he first starts singing it... find it kinda annoying, other than that, I like the song a lot. Musicology overall is a very good album that people have been hard on, saying that Prince "didn't put too much effort into it" or "it was Prince playing it safe". I could care less about that. I'd take it any day over the garbage I hear on the radio, it's the perfect antidote 4 it. There's a raw quality that I just really like about it,but it just took me the right time and a little patience to find.
