Black Album vs. White Album This might be a very clear cut competition on a Prince site, but still...
Which is better: The Black Album by Prince or The White Album by The Beatles. Please only respond if you've heard both albums. For me, they both highlight very interesting and troubled stages in the artists' careers. The White Album is possibly my favorite album of all time, though (certainly top 5), so I think that wins out. If Revolution 9 wasn't on there, it would be damn near perfect.

U gotta understand that these are 2 different types of muzik at very differnt stages
But Being a Funk Bibleist and a Hardcore Prince fan, I must say that the White Album is a little more weirder and wonderful especially Revolution 909 that was WONDERFUL!!! And it did have more than just 8 trax on it being all of them I liked but there could've been more, but that's why it wasnt released u know...!!??? So all in all of course The White Album is going 2 win because all in all..the Black Album just doesnt feel packaged and completed Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Bananas and watermelons, this comparison is. I think both are overrated. There are some good songs there, but I'll take Abbey Road easily. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

The White Album is up there as one of the top albums released by anyone ever. Black is not in the same league. I'm a diehard Prince Fan, but check out Why Don't We do it in the road?, Yer Blues, Me and my monkey, Helter Skelter, Glass onion. These songs are absolutely awesome. I think it is a more fair comparison to decide upon White + SOTT. If you don't own White or Abbey Road, you're collection is worthless, in my opinion. -----------------------------------------

Just imagine how great the White Album would have been if it had included tracks from '68 like 'Hey Jude', 'Lady Madonna,' and (especially) 'Across the Universe'. That would have been untouchable. Next fantasy: Hendrix playing with the Beatles... (oh, and I vote White, but it was pretty close).

As far as I remember Across the Universe was an old song recorded at the time of Yellow Submarine. Having released SGT Peppers on the Thursday Paul McCartney saw Hendrix performing songs from it on the Friday Night, such was the reverance the Beatles were held in. The problem The Beatles now face is that they are seen as old and sad. The White or Abbey Road is still as vital npw as it was 30 odd years ago -----------------------------------------

These are not two albums to compare...
The White Album is one of my fave two albums of all time, the other being Abbey Road. They both never age. I have had both of them since about 11 years old and have listened to them regularly ever since. These recordings along with Revolver is why The Beatles remain the best band ever. As for Prince, I agree that The White Album should be compared to Sign 'o' The Times if you want to compare. They both are a brilliant hodge podge of songs. The Black Album is a throw-away that even Prince wasn't too crazy about.

I'm no Beatleologist but as far as I know 'Across the Universe' was first released on a 'We are the World' style fund raising album in '68. This, I think, is a better version than the one on Let it Be. You may be right that it was written ca. 66 (I doubt it myself), but for me it would have fitted perfectly the White Album mood. Actually, it would have been damn near the best song on there!! Also, I think you misjudge the image of the Beatles. Wasn't '1' the best selling album of the year when it came out? I supose you mean 'The Beatles are seen as old and sad by the young hip club goer types...'. The same ones that probably hate Prince. I couldn't give a fuck what they think!! (sorry, OT). More on "Across the Universe" from www.songfacts.com:
" Was originally going to be released as a single. "Lady Madonna" was chosen instead. First appeared on No One's Gonna Change Our World, a charity album for the World Wildlife Fund. Bird noises were dubbed in. " So, probably recorded in early '68 (and written in India by any chance?) Edit (this from some damned site I've already forgotten): "The oldest song on the Let It Be album, 'Across The Universe' was recorded in February 1968 and first featured on a charity album for the World Wildlife Fund in December 1969 (also known as the Wildlife version). A song about writing songs, or at least about the wonders of creative process [yeah right], John was often to refer to it as one of his favourite Beatles' songs because of the purity of the lyric. The words had come to him while in bed at Kenwood. He had been arguing with Cynthia and, as he lay there trying to sleep, the phrase 'pools of sorrow, waves of joy' came to him and wouldn't leave until he got up and started writing the words down. "It drove me out of bed," John said. "I didn't want to write it. I was just slightly irritable and I couldn't go to sleep." Written after having met the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in England but before studying with him in India the chorus makes mention of Guru Dev, who was Maharishi's guru. John wanted this to be the single that the Beatles put on while they were away in India but it lost out to 'Lady Madonna'." How this stayed off "White" is as perplexing to me as, say, the song Crystal Ball not appearing until '97. [This message was edited Wed Sep 18 17:04:45 PDT 2002 by narcotizedmind]

The Beatles were overrated and overdiscussed. There are many albums better than the black album. Now Sign O The Times Vs The White album is another story.

Both overrated to me.that isn't even one of My Favorite Beatles Albums.same goes with Prince.but just because they actually had Songs I'd give the Beatles the edge here.Prince was just basically Jamming.that is cool but I wouldn't call it a Album of Songs that I care to Remember. mistermaxxx

black album, if only for the fact that i fucking hate the beatles. gimme the motherfucking stones anyday! its kinda like comparing prince & mj. one was clean-cut, and more mainstream admissible, and the other is more dark and funky. gimme the funk! now i know what this is all about. now i know exactly what i am.
