I don't know what you mean by "big" case but my case has two cds back to back where you can flip the center partition to see the other cd.

OK , thanks
I meant a cd case like the Emancipation cd's [Edited 4/5/07 5:36am]

Oooh, nope I've never seen one that big for SOTT.

Yeah, you're right. I've got both versions. The large case version was my first ever CD - bought it the same day i got my first CD player.
One disc got scratched to hell over the years, so I bought it again a few years ago and it came in the newer style single case that takes 2 CD.s

OK ,i think i have , very long ago
I'm buying all the albums on cd (i have this on vinyl already) and i'd prefer this with a big cd case (replying to Shaedove99) [Edited 4/5/07 5:44am]

^^^ More practical probably because a lot of cd holders don't allow for that big case. I have tons of cds in those cd holders that can either sit on the wall or on the floor...but about 6 or 7 that sit on top because they don't fit inside like the rest.

Yeah maybe , or because of less production costs
Does the booklet even fit ? I'd imagine it's all crammed up [Edited 4/5/07 6:09am]

Yeah. It came in a double thick jewel case(maybe only in Europe?), then 2 seperate regular jewel cases packaged together, then a regular thickness jewel case with both discs in it. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I bought mine on the day of release and it's two separate cases. The 'double-wide case came a short while later.

I bought mine as a double LP; I thought there was something wrong with it because Prince's voice sounded a pitch higher (Camille) "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."
"We had fun, didn't we?" -Prince (1958-2016) 4ever in my life

Nail on the head! The original (at least in Europe) CD release was two single cases, which had "Disc 1" and "Disc 2" in the SOTT font on the front of each respectively. Then came the double width case, then the single case with double discs. .

Can anyone remember the first Prince CD? (Without looking it up!) .

Mine sounded like there was a scratch on the 3rd track (HQ). The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I *want* to say it was Around The World In A Day? I remember buying it and it was the "old style" original CD disc where the edge of the disc was slightly curved/crimped... they changed that pretty quick, I think. [Edited 4/5/07 12:01pm]

Around 1981/82 is when the first cd's came out i think I was going to guess that too. But I think that Warners jumped into the CD world in about '85, with ATWIAD. It had a gatefold cardboard 12"x12"(open) folder with a pocket for the disc. . [Edited 4/5/07 16:53pm] If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Although the first commercial CD (Billy Joel's 52 Street) came out in 82, Prince didn't jump on the band wagon until Around The World in a Day.
Even then, it was initially in tiny quantities, and only in the US. The Same goes for Parade. The first worldwide Prince CD was the promo single of "If I Was your girlfriend". Even though it was a promo, it was actually printed in more copies that anything previous. It was released to radio stations the week before the album came out. .
