Top 10 albums:
All ten from 1978 to 1987, some might say 1979 to 1988, but either way, you get the point.

highfive lol
I find it fascinating how different people's lists are. Yes, there are about 5-6 commonalities, but then it veers all over. Some of the things I've seen in others top 10, I wouldn't listen to right now unless I was getting paid- well maybe not that bad, but you know what I mean. I'm sure it goes in reverse. No wonder there is so much snipping going on around here- it's a bunch of non-conformists within a group of non-conformists left and right! biggrin lol
Thank God Prince has given us all so much to love (or not biggrin ).

I don't even own 10 albums, so I really can't make a list... I've spent plenty of time with 3 of the 4 albums in my possesion, so I'll list them.

1. Purple Rain
2. 3121
3. Musicology

Purple Rain is like a rollercoaster ride I don't want to get off of, it's full of ups and downs, but Prince eases the transition through it and shows me a good time as well as some very touching music (The Beautiful Ones & the title track)... including a little of a diff. side of him with Computer Blues & Darling Nikki.

3121 is 2 things: a) Prince selling out to make his music sound more current like mainstream radio, b) Prince leading me thru a mix of different genres and teaching me lessons and such. What I got out of it was a personal connection with him that tempts me to put it at #1, but a) knocks it down a notch. My mind's still stuck in 1998-1999, so I can't really add much more at this point.

Musicology is last just because it took me 3 listens to connect with. But I call it Prince going old-school, but making old-school cool & current. It's very raw because he plays "real instruments" (unlike 3121 in some tracks), most of them himself, and I feel like he's trying to give me a whole new perspective of music, which was his overall purpose for putting it together. It's very heartfelt as well.

I also own TGE, but I excluded it from the list because I haven't spent enough time with it to give a true opinion of comparison on it. I've listened to 3121 3x, Musicology 4x, and Purple Rain twice (but saw the movie 6x in a week). I haven't spent enough time with TGE to make an informed decision. It wouldn't be fair to TGE.

Hopefully after getting more albums (like Emancipation and Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic), I'll have more to add to this debate. Right now, I really can't. But give me a break, I've only been a huge fan in this game for the past, going on, 7 weeks.
