It's really not stupid. I doubt it will be exclusive. All Verizon wants is to add an incentive to future customers. So a bonus track, or music a day/week earlier is not crazy...especially if you're the artist and they pay you upfront.
I thought he wanted it to go direct to the fans? Record stores were a pretty direct route IMO. I still can't download "Guitar" because I've had technical/password/username issues. This doesn't mean that the music will not also be distributed elsewhere...just that there are many more inventive options for the free agent. Anyway, the novelty of having an exclusive track/CD on the phone is not so bad...especially if it's only for a week or so. It's similar to the possible Pay-Per-View model where you download and view a movie before it's released to theatres... It's more expensive but it's the exclusivity that may make it work. I really wouldn't care if were some kind of deal where Verizon customers got the song a week or so early as long as it was made available for download elsewhere more accessible to everyone else. Otherwise this defeats the purpose of putting it out there if only a certain select few people are able to get it. Also if you truly can't save V-cast downloads anywhere but on your cell phone again....defeats the purpose. I've tried listening to songs that way and it's more trouble than it's worth. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You're probably right, but I read "exclusvely through verison" and I thought that would be stupid! My Legacy

The ones that download for that exclusive week(or whatever) will probably also buy the CD. They just want the cool phone for that week. Maybe they'll also get Prince ringtones so they can broadcast and brag and stuff. Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify

They are all in the content race. The one disadvantage to the Verizon V-Cast model is that they don't allow transfer of media to the computer...at least, not now. Some may not be too crazy about this. Thank you

After looking at VCast (I finally got it to work!), I can see this being possible now. It wouldn't be THAT bad I guess... as long as we could get the music to our computers, it could still be burned to a disc and listened to in our cars, home stereos, etc. Even my Dad (who is in his mid 40s) said that he thinks soon CDs will be replaced by either downloads or maybe flash memory as the new 'hard' format for music.
If you haven't checked out Prince on Vcast, they have a lot of his catelogue.. things I wouldn't have expected to find on there, like the entire Parade album.

Just resurrecting this thread... I think it's something that needs to be further discussed and looked into.
It's an interesting and very POSSIBLE sounding bit of tentative "news"

i really hope this turns out to be false. who wants to listen to music on a cell phone? who wants to listen to anything on a cell phone? (my mom,as annoying as she can be, is three times worse w/ her cell phone) i hope he releases a regular album
what's the deal w/ 3121 being unsuccessful neways? the album was great and it garnered him 5 grammy nominations. wasn't 3121 supposed to be a one-time deal w/ Universal neways? and Prince has always been against record companies, which is why his speech @ the NAACP image awards didn't surprise me one bit. A while ago we had a small team look at v-cast. Altho it's built around some copy protection mechanism, there are several ways around it that aren't easily fixed. So if Prince did decide to release anything on this platform, it'd be about the same as him just dumping some mp3s on p2p networks.
But to me that is besides the point really. I have dozens of NPGMC tracks that i payed real money for, yet they currently sit on my harddisc as useless bits. It'll take a lot for me to ever fall for that kind of shit again. "this especially prepared potato is called pomme de terre"

100,000 units of "3121" sold? C'mon, with all the promo, ads & TV exposure this is just impossible! Do we have any serious numbers 4 "Musicology" & "3121" sales?
