LOVESEXY MOVIE If Prince came out with a movie during the Lovesexy period, instead of Graffitti Bridge- do you think it would've been more consistant? I ask this, beacause the GB movie seems 2 be a mish-mash of his left over Lovesexy feelings, and his New thoughts for the NPG the 90's would come 2 know (insert Rosie in the Tick Tick bang scene). Even visually- if you look closely i think u can see what i'm getting at.
Lovesexy (the album) on the otherhand was a somewhat fresh idea, and might have meant a more focused message movie-wise [even tho lovesexy as an idea is still a lil tricky]. I'll put it this way... Imagine the Lovesexy Tour stage show translated into a movie. (This is probably what the 'Camille' movie would have been like[Black vs. LoveSexy], but anyway u know what i'm gettin at....hopefully )

Lovesexy was a cleaner concept. Black Album (bad boy) lovesexy (good boy).
But the themes had been rehashed since 86/87 and the whole Batman thing was this same internal battle playing out. I think he was mixing his Batman experience and his lovesexy sentiment. He wanted to be a spiritual super hero Didn't the comic book come out after this? The reason why GB failed to have consistancy, was Prince didn't spend enough time (writing and directing), money (the all in doors movie set) and effort to have it reach that goal. I feel this was further inhibited by the fact there was no one left to tell Prince '...that looks stupid...your pouting too much...etc' Everyone around were ass kissers.

I think it would've been a better project than GB. Instead of dueling night clubs, I could see a real film that showed Prince at odds with a record label.
Imagine: • His longtime "indie" record label is bought out by a huge conglomerate label • The new owners know of his legacy, and his father's work, and welcome him • After a whirlwind tour, Prince goes through a spiritual rebirth shortly thereafter, and wants to express it through his music • Record label wants him to produce only "hits" - threatens to blacklist him if he breaks contract • Prince seriously considers "selling out" to stay on top by giving the record label "hits" (which are not even new; he sorts through crates of finished "old" songs) • Prince's label hosts parties that revolve around alcohol and cocaine abuse - and he fears that he will become part of that world • A peer (same-level music star) that is a labelmate dies of overdose • Finally, Prince decides to go his own way - but convinces the record label to at least "see what happens" • Prince wins over the critics and the crowds with his new music Similarities to Graffiti Bridge would be: • Girlfriend leaves because she's only dating him for the fame and money • Bandmates support him, but are growing weary of the spiritual music • Prince has "visions" which shape his decisions (not an angel, but maybe vignettes of his future)
