Why are some men so confused? Ok, so my co-worker/girlfriend and I decided to watch Graffiti Bridge. Her boyfriend was visiting, but I'd rented the movie from Blockbuster online. (no video store here even had it) 
So, we are all sitting on the bed watching, and my friend is oohing and aweing. Of course, I'm sitting there talking about how sexy he is, and how I love the outfit when he's singing Tick, Tick, Bang. He just starts in about how gay Prince looks, how his voice sounds like a girl. And starts asking us why in the hell we go for a guy like that? That he's short and wears heels, for Christ's sake. (his words) My girlfriend got pissed and told him he'd better stop. But, he just kept going. I then told him to watch what happens when he takes Aura to his place, and while she's sleeping/drunk he could have done what he wanted, but he stayed his hand, and went to sleep at her feet. He told us a real man wouldn't have done that. 
I asked him if he'd dress up like Prince if my friend asked him to. He said, "HELL NO!" I then told him about my ex duplicating the "shower" photo and the 1999 liner photo (on the bed), and that he wore eye liner, and he did it because he knew I loved Prince. He then rolled over, covered up his head and went to sleep. We turned up the TV. Why are so many men threatened by this short man? Why is it that so many guys don't get it? I know so many here do, but the majority of the men I know can't understand why women are so attracted to Prince. Maybe if they'd try to understand it, they'd really know "what women want." Jealousy? I agree. If only more men were so secure in their masculinity, that they felt free to do and wear what the hell they wanted to, no matter what "society" voted as normal....and get rid of these antiquated male/female stereotypes. Sadly, I probably will not live to see the day.

I guess I'm the only guy answering.
It's not really being jealous. It's more like judging where you are in the in comparison. Sometimes you see really hot woman and there with someone you think is ugly. The first thing I think is "...he's either really funny or has lots of money..." I think women do the same thing? As for Prince and the "gay" comment, he doesn't fit any stereo type. That's part of the reason we think he's cool. He's not a jock, druggy, hippy, ...etc. We say femme, but dudes just go with "Gay". All I know is I've never seen anyone who can dance like he does in 3 inch heels. Screw MJ with high water pants and white sox  | |

I'd like to add something too. I asked a close guy friend of mine what he thinks the deal is with some men and how they handle some womens infatuations with Prince and he said this: "One of the things I think is that when we're dating a girl and shes really into someone like Prince or basically just Prince we have to sit there and watch the girl oooh and aaaah over him. I know that most girls do it because they no there is really no chance they will ever get a chance with him so thats why they don't care about doing it but when we see this happening, it's kind of like a slap in the face to us because they aren't always ooohing and ahhhhing over us. But, I understand what you mean because if you knew that you had a 100% chance with Prince I'm sure you wouldn't be so "OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG" about it would you? And sense they know that they're already with us and actually do have a chance they don't bother fantasizing and oohing and aahing because its already happening while its not with Prince so the girls fantasize. So I guess the reason we get so uptight about it is because every once in awhile we want to be the man the girl is oohing and aahing about. I think alot of women always want a man so beautiful on the inside but Prince also has the outside, and possibly men may feel they could never compete so they choose to cut him down. Prince is someone a person may not never understand but if you love him you love everything about him. | |

Very true for me. He's someone I guess that's like... you either like or you don't... but if you like him, you get into this completely different world. I guess it brainwashes you a little, convincing you that he's invincible, unrivaled, and is completely flawless. I blame his mystifying presence for that one, I wasn't brainwashed.  Right now, I believe that he's completely ageless... age is just a meaningless number, kinda the way he sees it.

Whatever. My girlfriend sent him home, and he hasn't been back. Get off the ego trip and take a listen. There are lessons to be learned in his lyrics. Maybe not in his personal life. But, who knows? Maybe it was Prince who was looking for something higher/more righteous/beautiful.... Read his lyrics to "LOVE."
