So, I was watching this DVD called 'Prince Unauthorized' last night (you can check it out here http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0146056/)

And it was quite a home-made DVD, but it did have some funny and interesting comments in it.

One that I wanted to share with those of you who haven't seen this DVD is when the producer is talking about a 16-year-old Prince was too shy cause of his falsetto voice and would not sing too loud during the recordings, so the producer was thinking of ways to make him less shy and sing louder.
So eventually he put a mattress on the floor of the recording room, told him to lay down on the floor, handed him the mike, switched off all the lights and sat in the control room with a candle and told Prince, now please SING.
And apparently, Prince started singing with a full, loud voice.
I find this so cute.
THANK GOD he got over his SHYNESS!
I mean, Prince, SHY?????

Hehe, that's cute. But you can tell that Prince is still kinda shy or at least nervous in front of lots of people if he's not performing. You can tell by how quiet he is in interviews or when accepting awards. A lot of the most confident stars on stage are quite timid off stage.

Actually, lying down and speaking/singing is a pretty common vocal exercise. Having your back against the floor gives additional support.

Oh, I didn't know that this is common practice Genesia....
But I still think of little Prince, with his Fro lying on that mattress in the dark....
Apparently he was really a slave-driver with his band even back then....

Yup -- right down to turning out the lights. (The dark room makes you less self-conscious.) Owen was nicer to Prince than my voice teachers were to me, though -- the most I ever got on the floor was a rug.
