Why Did Prince not make Emancipation 4 discs

We all are wondering about Emancipation outtakes, and though I believe there are just a couple circulating, I am sure he could have heaped on a bit more material.

Why not pull a Rave and bring an old song back, maybe There Are Others Here With Us or Schoolyard.

Cmon P, you really could have showed Warner Bos. and maybe issued a 5 disc set of all-new material, at the very least 4. For us, the fans.

If he had released it as four or five discs, there would probably be a million org threads about how to turn it into a great three-disc set. smile

We're due for another purple-indulgent multi-CD set. CD CD CD CD CD CD CD CD CD!
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

4 discs?!

To me, Emancipaton was already 2 and a half discs of filler material; or at least some very uninspired stuff...

I would have rather had one lean disc (but with the terrible drum programming going on, it still would have been mediocre).

Wasn't it supposed to be 51 tracks and 5 discs?

Thank the lord he showed a tiny bit of restraint and only released three discs full of doody with that album. Emancipation is a hot pile of steaming garbage--who'd want more of that crap? There are only about 5 marginally decent songs in the whole mess.

(I really hate Emancipation. I'd rather watch Graffiti Bridge every night for a month than listen to that album. shrug)
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Releasing it as a 3 disc set was already a problem 4 a lot of us,
it would have been better if he released every album after Emancipation
as a 2disc set.
And after 20 years I would finally wanna hear Schoolyard!! mad

i think the only things said about it was by mayte in one of her
few european interviews just after they got engaged and she told
reporters that he had 52 songs ready for the project

Why 4 discs? Why not 5, 7, 37? He's got enough to fill them up!! lol

You have to stop somewhere don't you. It was meant as both a commercial comeback and an artistic statement. So too many, and it's not commercially viable, too little and it's not as grandiose as intended.

The simplest answer is that Emancipation was a kiss off to Warners - Now he's "free" of their "chains", he can make the triple album that they wouldn't let him release all those years back.

Slave 2 The System
I Am The DJ
Feel Good
2020
Journey 2 The Centre Of U're Heart
How We Livin'
Nothing Left to Give
Van Gogh
The Dance
Goodbye

Are all Emanciaption Outtakes I believe, so you could make a fourth disc just two songs short of the 12.

Maybe the 3-disc length was his ironic kiss-off to WB execs...who wouldn't let him do a 3-disc Crystal Ball in '87.

isn't Hypno Paradise an emancipation outtake too?

and what about that Holy River-ish instrumental that was released on the npgmc
together with Van Gogh and HypnoParadise?

hmph! No, to me, it really is that bad. At least Graffiti Bridge has some redeemable songs like Joy in Repetition, Question of U, We Can Funk. Emancipation has a bunch of crappy love songs and horrible covers. It's the only album that I make a conscious effort to NOT listen to the songs when they come on an all Prince internet station.

How many of those outtakes should have made the final album.

I'd say Goodbye, Journey, She Gave Her Angels and hypno
