But Prince sounds like a real woman. Wow, it doesn't take Freud to know what this is about. He's afraid of Prince sounding like a woman?! That means he fears that Prince (a male man ) could turn him on. oh, lawd, sth wrong in sb's water? But I know of these reactions, too. I always tell them that what they see is there own projection of fears. Prince is just a canvas for them to paint a picture containing all the deepest fears (which in the end are their most wanted desires ;-D) [Edited 3/27/07 3:50am] [Edited 3/27/07 3:50am]

Some men can't stand seeing other men taking care of his physical appearance. At the first year of college some bullies called me gay cuz I like to use makeup sometimes. The funny thing is that they stopped insulting me when they saw I became very popular among the girls [Edited 3/27/07 6:12am]

OK Baby those lyrics r from black sweat! sorry... I knew those lyrics were familiar... just couldn't place with a song. Actually, it's been so long since I listened to "Black Sweat", maybe if I recall that, I should listen to it again I'm still getting off the fact that "My Name is Prince" was :cringe: plain awful. (I hate when I have to say that I don't like one of Prince's songs, but I think I hate it with a passion) had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

noimageatall said: Ok, so my co-worker/girlfriend and I decided to watch Graffiti Bridge. Her boyfriend was visiting, but I'd rented the movie from Blockbuster online. (no video store here even had it)
So, we are all sitting on the bed watching, and my friend is oohing and aweing. Of course, I'm sitting there talking about how sexy he is, and how I love the outfit when he's singing Tick, Tick, Bang. He just starts in about how gay Prince looks, how his voice sounds like a girl. And starts asking us why in the hell we go for a guy like that? That he's short and wears heels, for Christ's sake. (his words) My girlfriend got pissed and told him he'd better stop. But, he just kept going. I then told him to watch what happens when he takes Aura to his place, and while she's sleeping/drunk he could have done what he wanted, but he stayed his hand, and went to sleep at her feet. He told us a real man wouldn't have done that. I asked him if he'd dress up like Prince if my friend asked him to. He said, "HELL NO!" I then told him about my ex duplicating the "shower" photo and the 1999 liner photo (on the bed), and that he wore eye liner, and he did it because he knew I loved Prince. He then rolled over, covered up his head and went to sleep. We turned up the TV. Why are so many men threatened by this short man? Why is it that so many guys don't get it? I know so many here do, but the majority of the men I know can't understand why women are so attracted to Prince. Maybe if they'd try to understand it, they'd really know "what women want." Ur friend's boyfriend sounds like a closet bisexual

Cause Prince is sorta the antithesis of what men are raised to believe they should be like...yet he he can pull more poon-tang that a jock in a house full of drunk sorority girls
It confuses the boys...and boys don't like being confused (Just my 2 cents) If you will, so will I

Hey ladies,
Dont't forget there are also women who are 'confused' about Prince or dont feel attracted to him. I mean, a lot of women are attracted to more masculine looking type of men.

I don't know how my mom feels about Prince as a person, but as a musician, she just told me that he's more of an "acquired taste". I doubt that has any relevence to the topic, but the way I see it, I'm drawn to Prince more by what's inside. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I also think it's that old double standard I hate so much. We (women) can go around wearing men's attire as much as we want to. Jeans, work-boots, a baseball cap, a tux if we want....no one will call you names. But, let a guy wear make-up or dress feminine in any way, and he's automatically labeled. I'm a man and I love Prince as much as anyone, but gosh, that Tick Tick Bang scene can be a tough one, lol.
As for why some men are 'confused' I think it does have a lot to do with how we were raised to see men, and how we were raised to see women. Nothing to do with being 'confused', or, in most cases, being afraid that maybe a man is secretly gay if they don't like Prince or think he is. *Things that the vast many women in our society wear: eyeliner, high heels, make-up, etc. *Things that can be seen in Graffiti Bridge/All of Prince's career: eyeliner, high heels, make-up, etc. It has nothing to do with his sexuality, but is it starting to make sense why someone who was raised in this society might look at Prince in that movie, and think "hmm...that's kind of feminine. I've never seen a man wear those things?" I think that guy mentioned in the original post took it much too far, of course, but I certainly can see how ANYONE, not just men, could be "confused." I'm not sitting in the audience screaming "bring back the thigh-highs" or "more rouge, please!!!", but still, Prince seems quite heterosexual to me. But I mean, the majority of gay males don't wear high heels, make-up and eyeliner, if we want to be technical. Cross-dressers do. But the things is, nothing would be wrong with him being gay. I could care less. People lose it when someone suggests that, like it's a terrible insult. And I don't buy the whole "he's not gay, that's why we get mad" thing. It shouldn't matter. If we love his music, or if you find him attractive, it shouldn't be a big deal what someone else thinks. Being gay, or cross-dressing, or anything else that some people associate with Prince isn't a horrible insult. It may be a misjudgement, but that's all. Nothing more. It's not equivilant to saying "Prince can't play guitar" or "Prince is a terrible writer". THOSE are insults. Calling him 'gay' isn't insulting. Well, unless you have negative views of homosexuals. Now that does annoy me when you hear it 1,000 times from the same person (in my case, my uncle). I usually respond with "does that effect his talent?" though, and that ends it.
