Indian influence on Prince's music Listen to "7", "Around the World in a Day", "Thunder", "Glam Slam", "The Question of U" and a host of many others. You clearly hear an Indian influence on his music on those songs.
The Beatles as well as Zepplin toyed with that as well later in their careers. What is it about going in that direction for musical greats that we don't understand??? Or am I just way off base for considering something like that? I was thinking of that because of that R&B song that has the strong Indian vibe (Contagious or So Contagious, not sure of the name, but it's the one where Rakim raps in it.) Opinions??? The song is called 'Addictive' by Truth Hurts. Rakim indeed raps on it. The track is produced by Dr Dre.

The track was produced by DJ Quick, Dre is the executive producer.

The influence is most likely Arabian in the songs you mention. As to whether there has been much in the way of an Indian influence to date, I would say no. That said, I think Lisa plays a traditional Indian instrument in Strange Relationship, the sitar.

There's a bootleg version that has that song with the sitar played throughout it. More than the released version. Sounds great and puts a whole new spin on the song.

i do recall reading an article w/ lisa..she pointed out that her infatuation with the music is what got prince into it...and her brother David (or was that father? hmmm) arranged the middle eastern sounds on the album...

or maybe it was David who was heavy into it..
at anyrate...i think part of the what made the wendy and lisa period so eclectic was that it wasnt just *their* influences that got to prince...it was their whole gypsy caravan of friends and family...damn it must have been fun to be around all that...people coming and going and jamming..freely sharing ideas and having fun... now its just prince and who he *allows* around him...like larry. :O

Arabic, not Indian. Indian influences are heard in a lot of Western music though - numerous tracks by the Beatles, of course, being the most immediate example.

You can also hear the influence in the song "The One"...sounds Arabian to me, too. Maybe he just liked the sound. "Around The World In A DAy" may have been a vision to bring people together through the musical language of music...just a thought.

Truth Hurts sampled an "Indian" song, there's a difference! Ok, I could be a BIG help since I listen to Arabic Music alot. Here: -Around the world in a day-Oud & Darbuka -The Oud sample from "WE CAN FUNK", you can hear in the intro. -Both guitar solo(s) from The max and RAVE. -The guitar from "The greatest romance" -I did hear "Habibi" nor "Gamillah" but both of the titles are "Arabic"(Habibi-My love+Gamillah-Pretty woman) -The one is NOT Arabic, its just a plain ol' R&B tune. -The ad lips solo from "2morro"
