List the Best Songs on Purple Rain Because of the interesting Top 10 List of Prince Albums, I thought it would be interesting to list the best songs on Purple Rain and see what the variety is like. Each song is a classic... but let's see how hard it is to rank them.
... and even making this is hard, 'cause this list could change the next time I listen to the CD. Kinda funny... because #9 is Take Me With U... but I can get into this song bigtime. (The extended mixes weren't on the album. If so, Let's Go Crazy MIGHT be #1.) 1. When Doves Cry 2. Let's Go Crazy 3. The Beautiful Ones 4. Purple Rain 5. Computer Blue 6. Baby I'm a Star 7. 2. Computer Blue - Underrated Instrumental 3. Purple Rain - Overplayed, but classic 4. Let's Go Crazy - Energy 5. The Beautiful Ones - The screams!! 6. Darling Nikki - Love the songwriting. 7. Baby I'm A Star - Crowd Pleaser-Energy 8. I Would Die 4 U - Religious overtones often overlooked 9. Take Me With U - Good song. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind. | |

This is my kind of thread! Ok, I'll give it a go.
1. Purple Rain (I could go on and on why) 2. The Beautiful Ones (passion with a capital P) 3. When Doves Cry (love it to death!) 4. Computer Blues (blame an online typo for the extra "s")... truly addictive from 2:19-3:31 5. I Would Die 4 U (my first Prince song ever... well, after "1999") 6. Darling Nikki (bad boy Prince at his best) 7. Let's Go Crazy (something that can only be played so many times, still a fun song) 8. Baby I'm A Star (never was a huge fan, but the performance makes it funner) 9. Take Me With U (good song, but not quite as impressive the others) I've watched the movie 6x and listened to the soundtrack twice... but I gave Computer Blues and The Beautiful Ones extra listens. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. Computer Blue wow, you're the only person that didnt list "Take Me With U" as last on the list (or 2nd to last)... and the only person to put Computer Blues at last place. Personally, I didn't get into it after a couple of listens, but a lot of us could argue that it's one of the best Prince has ever done. Let's Go Crazy - CEMENTED me as a Prince fan. 3. The Beautiful Ones - Used to listen to it 10 times in a row. AMAZING! 4. Purple Rain - Just a classic. Everything a rock ballad should be. 5. Computer Blue - A pure rock jam. 6. Baby I'm a Star - Energy. Ego. If you can't jam to this, check your pulse. 7. Darling Nikki - Interesting piece of songwriting. Eerie. Intriguing. 8. I Would Die 4 U - Funny 'cause this could easily be #1. Great song! The extended single is argubably one of Prince's best extended cuts. 9. Take Me With U - Still catchy. Still a great sing-along, but the competition is too tough here. These responses are exactly what I was looking for. I was wondering if some people would have some songs as their favorites, and the same songs as some peoples least favorites. We're a diverse bunch here! BRAVO!

I like all the songs but the two I relate two the most are the beautiful ones and When Doves Cry. Carpenters bend wood, fletchers bend arrows, wise men fashion themselves.

Really, ranking them is ridiculous, but I thought I'd join in. Purple Rain is great, but much better live. Unlike a lot of people I Love Take Me With You, even with it's simple arrangement and relatively weak vocal track by Appolonia. The album is perfectly sequenced. Computer Blue is underrated. | |

The album is perfectly sequenced. Computer Blue is underrated. All good points. I do like Take me with U, it just kinds fades into the background compared to some of the other stand-out tracks. It is very well sequenced, I've noticed that myself. And Computer Blues, it took a little time to warm up to it myself... but now I'm crazy about it because of its unique music. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong.
