who was abusing drug in a prince camp and how did prince tolerate it

music and drugs often go together.
we know that prince loves discipline,
so how was his reaction if band members of the time,
vanity 6,npg,the revolution were consuming drugs?
i know morris day had cocaine habbit,
vanity also,anybody else???
prince looked like a cocaine user during purple rain days.

Don't know about the band members, but George Clinton partakes of ganja on a regular basis and crack from time to time. So, I'm willing to bet the farm that he was using when he was recording at Paisley Park. Chaka Khan is also known to have been using cocaine around the time she was recording "Come 2 My House".

I remember reading the 1986 Rolling Stone article and it mentioned "drugs were a firing offense" and that because of the Revolution being a drug-free camp, they were a band that was "gong to be around for a long time" or something of that nature. I'm pretty sure members of the Revolution were drug free. If not, they sure kept it on the down-low.

I heard he's experimented but it doesn't seem as if he let it run his life or ruin his talent. shrug

Well, there is the infamous story of the Ecstasy trip in the Black Album/LoveSexy period, but I still don't know if I buy that story. I don't see how someone who normally doesn't use drugs would suddenly decide to do something like x. Alex Hahn's book talks about cocaine rumors in the 80's-90's but everyone knows by now P is a night person and a workaholic, no drugs necessary- so I don't believe that was ever true. Plus, Alan Leeds answer to that made perfect sense. He said, Prince didn't even pack his own toiletries on tour so someone (like him) would've known. Hahn's book-I believe- also talks of an issue with prescription pain killers after an injury in the 90's- that's plausible (which is why I think it made it into the book), as pain killers are easy to get hooked on, but I still don't know if I believe there was ever a real problem. Go way back to old stories, before he was even famous and people say he was always straight. So, in my case, I'm not saying I'm certain, but I don't lean towards buying he's ever had a problem.
People act so surprised that he doesn't do drugs, like he's the only famous rock star who doesn't and that's simply not true. Here's a few other examples of "straightness"- Springsteen, Gene Simmons...

I don't remember the entire story, but it was something to the effect that by the end of the Purple Rain tour, someone wrote on a wall backstage that the entire stage crew and most of the band where on cocaine and Prince was supposedly oblivious?? Anyone else remember this? I think it was in Per Nielsen's DMSR book and since I loaned it to my cousin I can't verify!

I think that's Hahn's book as well. The road crew (not the band) never got to sleep on that tour, etc. P didn't find out until the end of the tour since he was on his own bus and by the time it reached his ears the tour was pretty much done.
I can believe he was oblivious- I met someone pretty high up in the security team on the LoveSexy tour, and he never even spoke to Prince. All communication had to go thru his personal bodyguards or tour manager.

I think most folx in the Prince camp abused drugs.Prince probably has low/no tolerance 4 that, which could b the reason 4 so many different lineups all the time.As 4 Prince himself,I like 2 think that he's 2 smart 2 use drugs. wink

Hardly solid evidence. Plenty of rock stars look like they're on something when putting on a performance, doesn't mean they are, and Prince does like to pull some funny faces. As has been said, I think a lot of people thought Prince MUST have been on drugs to stay up all night working on tracks when he first started out, but the years have gone by and he's still doing it which proved he was just a workaholic.

Prince is a junkie -- an adrenaline junkie.

Performing makes you release adrenaline. Not sleeping makes you release adrenaline. Not eating makes you release adrenaline. Eating a super low-fat diet makes you release adrenaline. Eating a vegan diet makes you release adrenaline. Being dehydrated makes you release adrenaline.

Put in those terms, he's been high most of his adult life. In fact, I'm surprised his adrenal glands haven't turned into raisins by now.

LMAO, that reminds me of a scene in the old movie "Pumping Iron", where Arnold describes the feeling he gets from working out to be like an orgasm. "Think of it - I'm coming all day long!" LOL.

and if you need more proof, why would he allow tony m. to rap on 2 of his albums, then invite him to come back AGAIN to rap on "1999: the new master."

drugs.

that would also explain the coolio haircut from the same time period.

interesting. Why? And I guess if that's true then the whole "marijuana is a gateway drug" theory goes out the window! biggrin
