He's got several diff. voices that he uses in his work, and there's his speaking voice, which has gone thru its changes to (well, duh).

Both the way it sounds in Purple Rain the film and the way it does now in his interviews have the same effect.

Well, he does use a diff. singing voice in "Kiss" than in "When Doves Cry" (just an example). That's what I mean. And his speaking voice sounds completely different comparing his Purple Rain acting (although i know someone will just say his voice sounds diff. there as a result of "bad acting") and his "interview" voice.

Me, I think I do prefer his deeper voice to his "Kiss" falsetto (still love the song, thu)... his speaking voice in "The Beautiful Ones" is 2 die 4... but I really dig his speaking voice from the interviews and his NAACP speech, although at times, i have turn up to the volume to hear him better... but that's worth it.

Yeah, that's definitely my favorite. His "Kiss" falsetto was a little different, so at first, I thought it was a little odd... but on the 2nd listen, it made no difference to me. I doubt he could make the song work with a lower voice... talk about one of Prince's genius decision (that's up there with taking the bass line out of "When Doves Cry").

As for his singing voice, his baritone/bass (w/e u wanna call it) is definitely my favorite... it makes me easier to sing along with him while being able to still hear his voice over my own singing. Examples of this being "The Dance", "Money Don't Matter 2Night" and "Diamonds and Pearls" along with several others.
