It takes alot of courage to put that much of yourself out there. Too much, too soon. sometimes both sometimes either/or. I haven't caught up yet. I think he will have shuffled off (and sad remakes will be out there) before we all catch up; and by then the kids won't remember.(something Justin Timberlake exploits)
For example, who remembers Samantha Foxx? I remembered her when Brittany Spears hit. And who remembered Newcleus when Will Smith ripped off their backbeats? I had to go to ebay to prove that one to my teenager.
Like with Mozart, people will be catching up for a long time. Unlike Mozart, at least he held out for and lived to enjoy his rewards and fame (if, in fact he does).

the funny thing about this topic is that his primary problem with Warners was them not letting him release stuff as quickly as he wanted to..but back then we usually got one a year, plus some of the BEST b-sides ever! Now- umm, not so much. confused

Hummm, perhaps he shouldn't have released Rave Un2 the joy fantastic or New Power Soul... All the other albums are worthwhile...even Chaos and disorder...

I'd say...maybe because I'm just enthusiastic and not obsessed. I never bought all his albums. There are songs I don't even know he wrote until I get to listen to them by accident.

Nope I missed his music [[or didnt pay attention to]] his music for years of my life, i always thought he was some man who like to get naked, and i listened to him every now and then , because my taste in music wasnt all that mature, but ever since i came to the org, i learned about so much more, and i want him to release music until .. im dead lol.

Yes and no.

A while ago, yes, I did feel that way, just because clashing TGE with the Purple Rain film made my head spin.

He has so much music out there and it's all so vastly different that it gave me a headache for a short time. I'm still adjusting to that and I think I'm doing a good job of it.

For that reason, I only listen to his music because it comes to me subconsciously, not because I feel I have to. Forcing myself to listen to this music doesn't resonate well with me.

But my final answer is no, because it really sets him apart from everyone else, the way I see it. He has so much variety that there's simply no limits to his songwriting genius.

It's a tricky question... on one hand, I think some of Prince's albums would've been better (as compilations of songs/musical journies), if they contained less.
On the other hand, it seems like because of his vast repertoire, he manages to please different fans with varying musical tastes. In terms of business, maybe releasing too many songs "floods the market" and alienates customers, but Prince is still filthy rich. What I know for sure is I wish Prince released more stuff nowadays.

Good answer. I basically feel the same way. I think I'd enjoy TGE a little more if it weren't so long, but I'll have to get back to you on that (ive only listened to it twice since I bought it).
His music is so intoxicating that putting too much out would drive me insane... not so much in a good way, though...

yeah, you do get a lot from Prince's albums... less songs means you'll have less to sort through and it'll be easier to figure out how you feel about the album.

And having less albums has its advantages... you have a little bit of everything w/o going overboard. You get a lot out of having less to work with.

Here's what I think Prince ought to do: Once a year, he should release a killer album that's less than one hour long, and promote the heck out of it. And once every two years, he should release a "crystal ball" type compilation (five discs! Owwaa!) for us fans. Of course, if I was to control his musical output, he would probably write "slave" on his face again...

and we sure don't want that. I think those years were pretty hard on the part of him whose life is dedicated to his music.

This is a little deep, but I also believe this of Prince. There's a Buddhist belief that every person has 2 halves to their soul. When they die, one half goes to heaven while the other stays with the body on earth. I believe that the half of Prince's soul that is dedicated to music is the soul that ascends to heaven.
During those years as prince, the other half of his soul was probably battling with the half that lives for the music and that conflict was a little hard on him. However, after the smoke cleared, those two halves reunited in a harmonious union and with that new understanding, Prince's mind, body and soul are all united as one, helping him be more at peace with himself.
Right now, I'm not sure if this new realization has helped make his music better than it was in the 80's, but he definitely seems to be happier because he's more intune with himself.[sorry as this comes off as a bit sketchy, ive a lot to figure out about this and one day, ill better be able to explain it]

yes and no...i think his constant need to get the music out of his head has created less then stellar work...

its not a matter of quanity with me...its quality...and of late the stuff is fine to listen to a couple times but just doesn't hold up after repeated plays...
