I adore this song. Is my favourite song off of THE RAINBOW CHILDREN. It makes me think and I get all 
I don't know, it's the vibe of the song. It's beautiful. I love the lyrics as well. LAST DECEMBER If Ur Last December came What would U do? Would anybody remember 2 remember U? Did U stand tall? Or did U fall? Did U give Ur all? Did U ever find a reason Y U had 2 die? Or did U just plan on leaving Without wondering Y? Was it everything it seemed? Or did it feel like a dream? Did U feel redeemed? In the name of the Father In the name of the Son We need 2 come 2gether Come 2gether as one Did U love somebody But got no love in return? Did U understand the real meaning of love? That it just is and never yearns? When the truth arrives Will U b lost on the other side? Will U still b alive? I'm not a huge fan of TRC, but that track is pretty awesome. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. | |

Bizarre. I dug out TRC this week and gave it a listen for the first time in ages. I love Last December although it doesn't really sit well musically with the rest of the album.
TRC is a very underrated album although I could do without Darth Prince inbetween tracks! I wonder what would be made of it if he'd released it after the Musicology/3121 renaissance instead of in his 'off the radar' period? Would it have been seen as a defining album? | |

It's a great song, but reading the lyrics now I realize what's been bugging me about Prince's spiritual songs. He never puts himself on the line. He issues moral challenges to his listeners without including himself as one who needs to be saved. The Last December, The Cross, God, The Word, 7, and even ones like Anna Stesia and Still Would Stand All Time where he goes to great pains to describe his inner torment, it's mostly theatrical--he doesn't confess or reveal anything of personal significance--and is invariably the recipient of divine grace. They're styled after the gospel tradition, the preacher man at the pulpit, waxing melodramatic about God and truth and dark nights of the soul--but ultimately they're more concerned with disseminating a doctrine than conveying the personal sense of wretchedness and responsibility that is so crucial to spiritual yearning.
In short, Prince assumes he's saved. And everybody else needs saving. It's this unctuous superiority that prevents his spiritual tunes from having any real redemptive power. | |
