If I knew of Prince as I do know and he suddenly disappered... omg, I can't even fathom what that would be like. The world itself wouldn't be different, but music sure would be. I can barely even grasp the concept of a world w/o Prince now that he's becoming such a huge part of me. It's even more insane than my "infatuation" with his music. I wouldn't know what true music would sound like. I wouldn't know that music could be an art form or that lyrics could be poetry or that cryptic lyrics can make a good song. The hugest thing would be is that I wouldn't know what it's like to be so passionate about something, keep that passion alive for years and reflect it through the aspect of the performance. Music wouldn't mesmerize me the way it does when Prince plays it. Because of the way music is today, there'd be an emptiness in me that would make it very difficult to get by in life, because life ain't easy. As insane as Prince's music makes me, I think I'd be even worse off without it because you can't find that beauty anywhere else. Very good answer. I mean, Prince is more than just somebody that you see in videos and hear on the radio. Prince and his music is an important part of the fabric of not just American culture, but the entire world. Well I thought about something else too. One day we are gonna have to live in a world without Prince. Let's face it, Prince as a physical human being isn't immortal, and eventually he's gonna check out of planet Earth.
But aren't we fortunate enough to experience him and his music at all? I mean, eventually he'll reach the end of his story, but he'll leave behind a quality body of work that we as well as future generations are gonna dance to for a long time. [Edited 3/22/07 9:16am] That's something else that we'd be missing out on w/o him. I don't think there's an artist out there that can unite his fans the way Prince has. There's something "other-worldly" about him that his fans (and myself) find beyond amazing. As Simon Cowell would say, Prince has the "X factor". Not that he'd say that about Prince himself, but Simon always looks for "the X factor" in potential "Idols". What's really insane is that in Prince's case, X= infinity. There's SO MUCH to him that you could go your whole life saying things about him and even at your life's end, there's still a lot more to be said. Prince is the same way with his music. Here's a little line about him that I've yet to put into a full poem that I think says it all. He thinks with his heart As well as his head Even Immorality Offers no guarantee That all of his words will be said had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. I would be a nun in New Jersey teaching snobby kids to divide with new math if it weren't for him...His music has been like a long hot summer in the middle of my life...today I can hear his influence everywhere...Ciara, Neptune, Tiberfake, Timbapansy, Usher, Thicke, and even Jayzee...His style is untouchable but so many have tried. I think I'll never be able to successfully imagine my world without my Prince. Thank God I don't have to...

I disagree, the Red Hot Chili Peppers would have been more popular if anything. (BTW they're still going strong. Stadium Arcadium won a Grammy) They come from a totally different scene. They mix the Funk with Hardcore Punk. I think the Bee Gee's had more of an impact on them & helped their career more that Prince. Prince has influenced the music scene more that any other artist, but without him in the mix it would've just left room for other artists like Rick James & Micheal Jackson to pass on the music. Pop music would've been very different that's for sure. "Be glad you are free, free to change your mind, free to go most anywhere anytime!"

Don't even want to go there - that would just be too horrible to consider - the world is a much nicer place with him in it and he sure makes life more bearable when you got great music to listen to !!

[Edited 3/23/07 6:33am] Well seeing as how he's 24 years older than me, yeah, I'm pretty sure the chances of me outliving him are great. But that's not the point. The point is that Prince and his music is going to last for a very long time, even long after he's gone. If we can still appreciate the music of Duke Ellington, I'm sure the same will apply for Prince. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Here's how I see it:
1. Music will continue to decline in "goodness" 2. Guitar solos will no longer be as beautiful 3. Lyrics will no longer be as cryptic 4. I'll no longer be able to connect to other singers thru their songs because chances are, they didn't write it. 5. The world itself would lack a certain beauty that Prince always gave it. The world would be a pretty glum reality w/o Prince... now that's depressing. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone
