Does anybody here think that "Jack u off" was...or coulda been...well..kinda...gay? HEY don't bite my head off about this topic...and YES i know that we don't wanna get into the gay/bi/straight convo again. But i just wanna know about THAT song. ( btw i believe that one or sum of his band members in the past thought that it was kinda bananas and stawberries because they never heard of a man jacking a girl off.)

Yeah, I think he wanted to stir up confusion and discussion (controversy). He talked about it (not this specifically, but in general) in the interview he did with Chris Rock. I think he said something like "there was a lot of playing going on there" (meaning that he wanted to keep people guessing). Prince is smart; he knew what he was doing. He was making bold statements as an artist and they dealt with sexuality in unique and provocative ways. I'm sure he knew that songs with titles like "Head," "Jack U Off," and "If I Was Your Girlfriend" would be misconstrued by some people, but he wanted to challenge people.

Yes Prince was very playful especially in matters of sexuality and he liked to put things out there that kept people asking questions and guessing, however...

I think it's pretty clear that he is talking to a female if you look at the lyrics.

He most likely used "jack u off" because it was the first thing that came to mind that fit the meter. "Fingerbang u off" has more than twice as many syllables.

Anyway, I thought it was kinda gayish at first, but the more I thought about it the more I thought that a guy could 'jack off' a girl. Isn't 'jack off' just a term for masturbation, free from gender?

In addition, there was a big phase of bisexuality among rockstars in the '70s (check out David Bowie and Mick Jagger from back then), so Prince's look and act back then makes a lot of sense. But Prince never alluded to being gay in his lyrics, including in "Jack U Off". Wasn't he so horny back then that he sang about doing it with his sister in "Dirty Mind"?
