'7' is definitely one of his stronger tracks from the nineties IMO.
It offers the mix between a catchy composition (the 'pop' element) with just the right amount of sonic experimentation (the sound effects, the layered background vocals, the sitar) that made most of his eighties highlights so strong. I agree with the people here talking about the intricateness off the background vocals. IMO Prince is a master when it comes to delivering original, breathtaking arrangements for background vocals, and its also one of his trademark elements. A shame he doesn't give us these kind of background vocals anymore in the last 5 years (at least). | |
