I refresh it every couple of minutes and I go nuts when there's nothing going on with any of the threads I subscribe to... feel like I'd die of boredom. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. Heh, I felt that way b4 I got into Prince. Ever since I came off of that period in my life (a year) when this boy band, Dream Street was my main focus in music (they broke up and all but one disappered out of existence). I haven't found a solid artist who I could really get into the same way. Sure, I've tried Michelle Branch (2nd album was a bust), Ryan Cabrera (his stuff is great, but not extremely special), Plus One (Christian boyband that gave me the phrase 'soul tattoo') and The Click Five, but I never found one that really stuck. I can't get into anyone on the radio these days. Most mainstream music sux in my opinion, there's just a couple of hits here and there that I like ("Say it Right" and "Promiscious" by Nelly Furtado, "Sexy Love" by Ne-Yo and "Cable Car" by The Fray)... but that only counts for 5% of mainstream radio music. * you might be a PurpleNeck if you feel that Prince's music is superior to all others. Sure, I love Jesse McCartney's latest CD and the songs are well co-written by him... but there's something Prince's music has that JMac's doesn't. Prince's music has something extra that makes music an art form as well as ear candy. His CD's are like a listening experience that takes you to a different place (Purple Rain did that for me today, its like a rollercoaster ride you dont wnat to get off of). And you not only looked at the components (the songs), you look at the whole as an experience. Boy...Prince is deep in so many ways, it's mind-boggling. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. I was like that with "Computer Blues" today... I listened thru the Purple Rain album (love it!), then I listened to that song... I'm completely addicted to 2:19-3:31, its so 80's, but it has Prince's flare. The instrumental work on that song is brilliant, one of his best instrumental arrangements (only Purple Rain and Doves surpasses it). Then I listened to the song again, then with "Darling Nikki". I had that song in my head, for no apparent reason, so I knew I had to listen to the album (my first taste of 80's Prince in nearly a week). I listened to that song and was singing along (good thing I was alone)... the lyrics are so nasty, but I couldn't help myself... its almost as addicting. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. After Prince I've only gotten in2 Van Hunt, India.Arie and Jamie Cullum... wow! Only 3 artists Prince just changed the way I listen 2 music, and I thank him 4 that! I thankfully got over American Idol What exactly do you mean by that? Did you get over how the show "sucks" or get over the fact that Prince was a hypocrite and showed up for his performance [as brilliant as it was, a-thank-you]? I watch American Idol, but I look at it a lot differently now. And everyone else's music that I listen to just doesn't seem to be at par with Prince's music... I doubt anyone could match Prince in my eyes. * you might be a PurpleNeck if a song by another artist reminds you of Prince Some songs by the duo Aly & AJ [they're songwriters too] remind me of Prince... one line from their song "Shine" especially: I know the light, it guides you. I'll join the line that walks behind you. You shine. Like a window to your heart I see, all the possiblities. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I know, that was so Prince... back then, I thought he really was an arrogant individual, but I thought it was all a part of being the musical genius he is. I had no problem with that whatsoever because that's just who he is. I then found out over the past 6 weeks that there's so much more to him. I've got a few more to add to the list You're a purpleneck if... * while you have a cold, one of your ears gets blocked up and you can't hear as well out of it as you used to. Then you worry that it'll never return to normal and you'll eventually become deaf and that would really sux because you'll never again be able to listen to Prince's music. (yeah, like that should be my biggest concern, right?) * (sorry if this sounds a little harsh) you're dealing with a fatal disease and your dying wish is to meet Prince (again, sorry if this strikes a few nerves) here's one of my favorites and it's one of my personal principles * you listen to one of Prince's albums/songs just because you have it stuck in your head or you feel that you should... not because you feel that you have to (spontaneoity! meaning that you don't force yourself to listen, it just comes to you and you know its for a reason) had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. ...U deliberately exclude any relatives/ancestors whose lineage prevents your family tree from taking the shape of the symbol.
...to this day, whenever a JW comes aknocking on your door, U still invite them in for a "chat", in hopes that it will lessen the degrees of separation between U & Prince. ...in U're circle of friends, U can use the word "Atwiad" in a sentence without having to explain to anyone what it means. ...U do shit like wearing only a tight, chili-stained wife-beater T-shirt, no pants & a massive sombrero when U play the song, "Te Amo Corazon" in hopes of enhancing the listening experience.

It feels like Prince wise beyond his years... the kind of maturity its sound has reminds me of his later work like "The Word" on 3121. It kinda proves that although he changed a bit during his years as , he hasn't completely changed into a different person. I find that very comforting. That song's also great because it helps clear my mind a little. I was still reeling on Purple Rain and I listened to it to get myself set for laying down with TGE playing thru my headphones... anyway, playing a song more than one does have its advantages, especially if the 2nd time you do it, you're watching one of his videos of it. It helps establish a connection better with him. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

You listen to the songs in TGE for the third time and start to feel that some of the songs sound more like Prince than .
Honestly, though, it is very difficult for me to listen to some of the tracks and think that Prince wrote them... the vibe they care is so vastly different that they feel like they come from a completely different person. In tracks like P. Control, Billy Jack, Endorphinmachine, Now, and 319, they're so different from Prince's material that them being under a diff. name actually makes a lot of sense to me. Shh and Gold definitely feel like Prince material to me. I'll give you more of a look into my perspective after figuring a few things out. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong.
