You might be a PurpleNeck if you listen to the same Prince song over and over again, because you can't get enough of it. I'm guilty of doing that, in fact, right now, I've got "White Mansion" on repeat, because I just love this song so much.

I'm gonna try not to do that... I think I did that with Gold for a day... but I stopped cuz I couldn't stop doing this cry... there's a limit to how long I wanna cry, even in the case of Prince.

Doing so would make me sick of a song, so I don't want to.

But I agree you're a PurpleNeck if you do that.

I know I am, but not for this reason in particular.

The song "Gold" makes you cry or makes you sad?

You get really mad or even curse out loud when you read something or hear someone in the news make a statement about Prince that has even the slightest minor logistical error (e.g., "his 1980s hits included 'When Doves Cry' and 'Diamonds and Pearls.'", "His former wife is Marty Garcia.").

It's a tearjerker cuz it reaches me the way no other Prince song has. I call like my "soul tattoo". It's very deep and extremely sweet, which makes it stand above all of the other songs in my book (except for Purple Rain, my #1 fav.)

Thanx. My favorite thing about it (in general) is that it is so ambiguous and occasionally when I listen to it or I have it in my head, Prince reached me through it and it helps to connect me with him.
That's why I call it my "soul tattoo".

You might be a PurpleNeck if:

* When first listening to the Prince song, "Sex in the Summer", you think Prince is singing "Freak your body all night long", instead of "We can party all night long. lol

* If you're a female fan, and you're listening to a Prince song where he's saying or singing something sexy, you smile to yourself and think, "You wish you could do that to me, Prince." lol
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

lol I dig this thread.

You might be a PurpleNeck if:

* Since the release of SexyBack everything JT says and does pisses you off.

* You only date short guys with make-up.

* You know more about Prince than about your own husband/wife.

* You can't have sex if Prince isn't played in the background.

* Your goal in life is to get Prince to notice you, even if it's just an angry glance.

* You have all Prince associates on your myspace friends list.

* You like all of his associates just because they are associates.

If you've grown up listening to Prince and use Prince album releases as your point of reference for past events.

For example, I met my friend Dave around when "Sign O' the Times" came out, so that means I've known him for 20 years. And, my new eye doctor was asking me to remember how long it's been since I had LASIK surgery. I remember having the surgery shortly after "Diamonds and Pearls" came out, so I know that that was in late 1991, a little over 15 years ago. If not for that point of reference, I doubt I'd remember the year.

I do the same thing!

I think I may qualify :
- My mother sends me a message when she hears Prince on the radio
- people at work or friends ask me;how is P doing?
- All my PIN codes and garage code(I won't tell U where I live lol ) are P-related
- Passwords and nicknames 4 every site I'm registrated are P-related
- I point out 2 people how JT or others are is influenced by Prince/or rips him of.EVERY time...

and I recognize a lot of things others mentioned here....always putting
at leat one P-song on a cd and so on....WE are such a happy crowd lol

Heh, I did that in the case of Batman. I didn't like the movie when I saw it the first time, but it was on HBO, so I figured, what the heck. I liked the movie better cuz I think I understood it better.
It's funny cuz a day later, Beverly Hills Cop was on, but I missed out on the striptease scene where they play "Nasty Girl" in the background...

I love that movie, but just can't believe Prince wrote that song.

On moving day, you go to a Prince concert instead of staying home to unpack with your future husband.(he said I could go without him)

On a similar note. . .

. . .on your first wedding anniversary, you were in Minneapolis at the Prince Celebration (went with my sister and left hubby back in Detroit--hubby said, "Whatever makes you happy, dear").

Your trip to Vegas is with 3 other raging fans (sister, BF, and cousin) and also Hubby who doesn't care to go to the concert. You go anyway and don't really care that while you're with P, Hubby is dancing/partying at another club. (Undoubtedly with beautiful girls)

Your trip to Vegas is by yourself because you're tired of waiting on people to make up their mind whether or not they want to go.

ha...

the last time I listened to it was on Emancipation radio Monday night. I didnt make me bawl my eyes out like it usually did, but I felt Prince reaching me through it. That's what so great about it. I'm so moved by it that I don't see the "corniness" of the lyrics. Just the combo of the chorus's music & lyrics is enough to overwhelm me. It makes my soul weep with happiness cuz I'm so touched by it. There's a reason why I call Gold my "soul tattoo".
(maybe I should add that to my siggy)

The first verse is just not very cryptic to me....sometimes I prefer Prince when his message is a little harder to decipher.

I know what you mean. Prince's songs with cryptic lyrics are some of his better ones and some of my favorite ones. Sure, everyone knows what "Little Red Corvette" is about, but I think he disguises it so well. That makes it one of my favorite songs of his.
"Dolphin" is also good for those same reasons. I could think of a list of his songs w/cryptic lyrics that I love, but I'd need some time to do so, lol.

Gold and I had an instant connection at first listen, so I really could care less what the lyrics say or how simple they are.
