You might be a PurpleNeck if: you're reading a magazine or the paper, and you see a word that is also the title of a Prince song, and you start singing the song that it's from. That just happened to me when I saw the word "interactive" in the heading of an article that I was reading. Of course, I started singing "Interactive". RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

You're right, I forgot that in some cases, I just take the song as it is and don't try to analyze it too much. I never really tried to analyze Computer Blues. I just find the music overall enjoyable... but it gets stuck in my head so easily. Some songs are just begging to be analyzed, while others you just take them as they are... and in rare cases, you hear it and you connect with it, realizing what it means [to you] just by listening. But I love it All I know is that it has a different vibe than any of Prince's other songs. Sure, you can tell that his music in that era sounds like its from the 80's, but especially the guitar solo in this particular song, you can really tell its from the 80's. Guitar doesn't have that sound anymore, at least I don't hear Prince using it in any of his songs since. Completely crazy, maybe that's why it's so easily stuck in my head. But we're getting off topic, I have something else. You're a PurpleNeck if you have to replay certain songs to see if you like them or not. And if when you listen to a song and you were half-distracted at the time, you want to check out the video or a live version of the song to watch Prince sing it. Having a visual helps a song come more alive for me. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

babooshleeky said: I always like the song better after I see him perform it, ie..Lolita on A.I.!!!! Like Black Sweat, I liked that better after I saw the video I agree, but in several cases, I've heard Prince's songs first in a music video or in a live performance. I saw him do Lolita & Satisfied b4 listening to it on 3121. I also saw him do Fury & Te Amo Corazon b4 listening to it on disc. I guess I was a little spoiled, getting to see him make those songs come alive b4 I made my opinion on disc, but that made me an early fan of the songs, leading me to get the album in the first place since I already knew a bunch of the songs. Black Sweat, I also saw the first video b4 getting the CD. I don't think I would have like it otherwise w/o seeing the first video. And actually, I find it a little 'out there' on first listen, so I wasn't too crazy about it. But the 2nd time, it totally grew on me, just because Prince's facial expressions are hilarious. Yeah, having a visual definitely makes me enjoy a song better. It helps me connect with it more. That brings me to this: * you're a PurpleNeck if you judge a song not only by sound alone, but also how you connect with it and/or Prince himself. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

You take an early lunch break so you can make it to Best Buy (or any other store that sells CD) the minute they open on the day of a new Prince release.

You get really mad or even curse out loud when you read something or hear someone in the news make a statement about Prince that has even the slightest minor logistical error (e.g., "his 1980s hits included 'When Doves Cry' and 'Diamonds and Pearls.'", "His former wife is Marty Garcia."). In the spirit of the HalfTime show,
* you're a football fan and a Prince fan and was initially excited to hear that he was gonna headline the halftime show.
