I prefer rock.
The chances of there being a killer guitar solo are greater and I love me some Prince on guitar.

I love the mature sounds of the Rainbow Children. A hybrid of jazz, funk and rock. Prince creates his own genre and is not beholden to any format. It's all rock and roll which is a mutation of the blues.

You read my mind. I was just thinking of this. Both great, and I love to get my groove on to funky Prince but the 80's rocker girl in me would love prince to put out an cd heavy with rock tracks. These are some of my favs, Foo Fighters cover Best of You on SBHS, Fury, Little Red Corvette, When Doves Cry, Darling Nikki, Let's Go Crazy. Wish list: maybe cover a little Santana or do a colab. This my sound weird but I think a colab with Ann and Nancy Wilson would be so hot.

Definately funk. However, don't get confused. I'm NOT talking about the retro funk with the jazz and horns that started after Prince changed his style in 1985. I'm talking about the cold, hard "Minneapolis Sound" funk from 1978-1984.

Even though I think that Prince is, was, and will always be about the FUNK, why choose? shrug

I think he's great in both areas and it would be unfair to pit one against the other. I can easily jump to "Housequake" but then I can jump to "Dolphin". And then I can jump to "Lady Cab Driver", but then I'll be in the mood for "Same December". But then I can go back to "I'm Yours", but then I can jump to "Let's Work"....

I fourth that emotion. Prince 1984 and before, spoke for a lot of us back then,
before videos, before Sam Goody and the R&B section of the store, even before black radio stations were widespread, Prince was our voice. What does "The Rainbow Children" know about that?....

Exactly. When he combines them perfectly, that's the best. 777-9311, Extra Loveable, Electric Chair, When Doves Cry... funky and rocking... and I agree with vainandy... leave out the horns!!!! shake

I fourth it. Strange that Prince left the minneapolis sound behind so quickly but stuck with that jazzy funk with horns for so long... he really loves those horns. sad
