Probably way too many to mention, but here are a few of mine:

The "Yo, relative--u just gonna play the part over and over" (and the solo that comes after) in La, La, La, He, He, Hee
The "See J!" part of Billy Jack Bitch
The intro to Te Amo Corazon--it reminds me of the fanfare of Lovesexy, like it's an allusion by Prince to that era
The way Pink Cashmere has a really low note inserted 1:09 into it--it doesn't fit but it does.

Just listened to another.

Again, on the One Nite Alone Live CD.

Actually, it aint Prince, it's the women in the audience!

When he pauses after asking "Do U wanna spend one nite alone with me?". The reaction is great!

Also "you can smash up.....uh oh!"
So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

Loads of good ones have already been mentioned. One of my many faves is
"I'll make love to U, tomorrow... Sweet dreams" - followed very appropriately by "When 2 R In Love".

Great idea for a thread btw.!

The low first verse of Positivity biggrin

The ending of Darling Nikki

The low note @ the end of Do U Lie?

The ending of Kiss

Cat's rap on Alphabet St. and I think it's funny when she finishes and Prince goes "ow ah... and while U're on it tell Ur papa about this"

My two all-time favorites:

1. The first 90 seconds of "Raspberry Beret (12" version/video version)". This minute-and-a-half of musical bliss ncapsulates Prince's funk legacy. Moving it forward while reinterpreting it.

2. The guitar solo of "I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man (video version). Prince at the apex of his power. Who cares if it was dubbed. It was a scorching solo and a great performance. Fun, free, fully confident. This moment IS Prince.

Others

- The outtro of "I Wanna Be Your Lover" (3:20 to end)

- "Erotic City (12" version)" 6:35 in, the call-and-response of the "whoa-u-whoa-u-whoas"

- The intro guitar solo on "Hello (12" version)

- "Batdance," 2:34-3:19 -- the Joker "stop the press" segue into that NASTY funk lick through to the Bruce Wayne "she is great, isn't she?"

- The intro to "Emancipation" with perhaps the nastiest bass lick since "Let's Work."

- The intro to "If I Was Your Girlfriend"

- The outtro lick and "a better life" loop on "My Computer," an incantation very similar to John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme."

- The intro to "Come On"

- The last half of "heart or $ (12" version)"

- The bass solo on "La, La, La, He He Hee (12" version)."

- Part 3, "eye Wish U Heaven (12" version)"

- "Mountains (long stroke)" -- 3:58-4:37, that scream and segue into the horns? Cain't nobody else do it quite like that. Prince kept the funk alive in small, sustained doses.

- "eye No": the WHOLE song.

More later.

So many great ones!! Off the top of my head:

-"F_ _ _ ing on yo' mind" (buried in the middle of "It"
-the wicked guitar solo at the end of Can't Stop This Feeling I Got..fades way too early!
-the multitracked "Oh baby, can't get you outta my head!" in Gotta Broken Heart Again
-"the ladder is purple come on and climb!!" from Around The World In A Day
-EVERYTHING about the second verse of Anotherloverholenyohead
-that futuristic sounding ending on "U Got The Look"..not one of my fave songs but LOVE that cool ending. Especially the 12 inch version which doesn't fade out.
-the second half of Dance On
-the "say it again" buried in Positivity (during the nah nah nah nah nah section)
-toward the end of "Vicki Waiting" where he repeats "Still I keep Vicki" three times each time adding a vocal track and then hits the word "waiting" three times with a different vocal track. And of course the "uh huh uh huh" right after it.

Whew..that's all for now. Best thread in a long time..loving it!

-the beginning ad libs of "Insatiable"
-the humming & chorus on "Diamonds & Pearls"
-the 1st 2 verses of "I hate U" (I LOVE THIS SONG)
-the bad ass guitars on "When You Were Mine" and that lil synth noise on the hook.
-the lyrics to "Pop Life"
-everything about "Its Gonna Be Lonely Tonight"
"I'M OK AS LONG AS YOU ARE HERE WITH ME!!! SEXUALITY IS ALL WE EVER NEED!!!!!" guitar guitar guitar

Not that I don't like the others you mentioned, 'cause I surely do, but this one I dig to the extreme! I've been watching Sign 'O' the Times a lot lately, and I always linger (play it again 4-5 times) when I come to that absolutely spectacular part. yay!
It should be mandatory for anyone remotely interested in music to watch/listen to this!

Oh yay! I live for certain parts of Prince songs...

-In Darling Nikki when he says "when I saw little Nikki grind..." I love the way his voice goes sort of upward at the end of "grind"
-Let's Pretend We're Married...we know this...
-The very beginning of Anotherloverholenyohead...I don't know why but I love the first verse practically better than any other part
-The last like two minutes of When Doves Cry
-The part of Sexuality where he says "Absolutely nothing..." I love that.
-Whenever he says "color me taken aback" in U Got the Look...don't ask why
-What I call his "breathing exercises" in Electric Chair. I think you know what I mean...?
-In The Beautiful Ones where he's "begging down on his knees", etc.

There are tons more, but I'm lazy and those are the ones that popped into my head.

HE'S COMING AGAIN

Do Me Baby--the panting and musical orgasm towards the end of the song

Dorothy Parker- "Yeh, I'll have a fruit cocktail. Dorothy laughed. Right then and there I knew I was through."

If I was Your Girlfriend-- "Would you come to me if somebody hurt you, even if that somebody was me?"

Beautiful One--all the screaming and screeching

Pop Life-- The cheering crowd

and sooo many more!

I like certain lyrics more than certain parts.

"Can we go to a movie and cry together?" - If I Was Your Girlfriend

The way his voice goes in Darling Nikki when he says "and Nikki started to griiind"

The way he sings "sideways" and "guess I shoulda closed my eyes" in Little Red Corvette. He genuinely sounds sad.

"You'll be screaming like a white lady when I count to 3" cool

"two sides to every story, one mans gloom is another mans glory" - Fury.

The start of 7

"It's in his will I read it, he shot to kill, he said it" - Face Down

At 0.34 in God he sings beautifully for a few seconds and at 2.54 i love the way he sings "...us all equally".

"sh-boogie bop" in Cream smile

All I can think of right now.

ok, haven't done this in a long time but let's see what i got off the top of my head. and i know you will all dig these...

-spooky hammond organ solo played by prince on SOTT film to introduce 'hot thing'

-'i wish u heaven part 1.2.3' - part 2 - 'say hello 2 my little friend, the blue angel', followed by one of the weirdest, coolest little guitar solos he ever played. the whole ambience of that part 2 segment sounds like sex/church/drugs all mixed up together. also check out the choir singing 'heaven' - on alternate 'heaven's there is a weird high pitched processed shriek in the background.

-'elephants and flowers' - check out the PLAIN WEIRD musical computer whoops and slides as it goes from the breakdown (boy is lonely on a burning hot summer night...) back into the chorus. BIZARRE and UNIQUE.

-breakdown near the end of 'le grind'. everything goes silent for a second. or does it? nope, there's a low pitch computer bass gurgle to fill in the gap. also check out how the melody for the line 'up and down, up and down/feels so good' makes it play against the beat. it's a head spin.

-snare drum finally kicking into 'joy in repetition'.

-spoken segue between 'eye no' and 'alphabet st'. track down a transcription of this somewhere (does dtt lyrics database still exist?) and marvel at how much dialogue is packed into that studio-engineered minute or so.

-EVERYTHING about 'good love' and 'if i was your girlfriend'

-how 'all the critics love u in new york' has at least 2 competing, burbling basslines, and how they work with the military roll of the drums

-end segment of 'strange relationship', where the strange, rare sliding sound takes us into the drily-intoned, sinister 'yeah yeah' refrain playing against the bass. simply about 400 times better than the copycat ending to 'in this bed eye scream', sorry, 900 times better.

-'talk of children still frightens me' segment of 'vicki waiting' - background shoo-woops against the main vocal line. nice!

-'anotherloverholenyohead': the 3 piano notes after 'there's gonna be a riot/if u don't clap your hands'. also, as has already been pointed out, the entire 2nd verse. the way the background vocals catch up with the lead and overtake them and - oh, the whole goddamn song. especially the 12" version, with that FUNKY bass grinding away in the back against the drums - near the end i'm thinking, all that 'put your foot on the rock' stuff. HOT SHIT, that is good.

-'i said i wanna know (talk 2 me) one thing' to 'i am the best, better than the rest, better than the thieves in the temple 2night' segment of 'thieves in the temple' 12". oh god, YES.

-'hot thing' album version: one time only, the synth line is played on strangulated distorted guitar. it's quite far back in the mix but once you've heard it you will live for this moment.

-how the drums serve double time on 'bob george'. they are pitched to play a sawn-off blues progression. man, THAT is minimalism.

-talking of the 'bob george' drums, i want to mention the incredible beat prince was in love with around this time. check out how 'bob george', 'housequake', 'superfunkicalifragisexi', 'shockadelica' and probably a couple of others i've forgotten - are all based on variations of the same hip jiving beat. and how each of those songs is totally different from each other. man was on a roll.

ok, i think that will do for now. anyone disagree with me?

Oh, come on, Peeps, r u all 2 afraid of sounding cliched by saying the best snippet of a Prince song is the "Ooh ooh ooh ooh, ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh oohoohooohooo hoohoo" part at the end of Purple Rain. It may sound cliched and trite, but the truth is it is spine-tingling. When I heard it live in 2003 in Melbourne it was electrifying and made me cry tears of exhiliration! It took me hours 2 recover and gain back my speech!
Having said that, there are myriads of other musical snippets, and I'll sure b posting them when I can and as they come 2 me. 2 many 2 think of on the spot!
But here r a few (in no order):

- "Doesn't matter what I do, I can't stop thinking bout u, thinkin bout u girl" Crescendo of Got a broken heart again

- "u like the dreamy ice-cream" in Girl

- The gorgeous melody of Adore

- The nasty, dirty way he speaks in general in Come. (very hot)

- The part before and the crescendo of Do Me

....And there's so many more!!!!! B posting more as I have time 2day 4 sho'. It's such a great and thought-sparking thread!

Off hand I can think of these:

-when he asks "Detroit--what's happenin'?" in Dance On

-the way he sings "til U come on back, Come on back 2 your little man" in Pink Cashmere

-the bass from 3:30-4:02 and 5:54 onwards in Sexy Dancer long version

-the part of IWBYL that got cut on the Hits; especially from 2:58-3:28.

-the way he says, "Talk to you? Talk to you? What do you wanna hear?" in Girl

-the guitar solo after "say hello to my little friend, the Blue Angel" in I Wish U Heaven extended (as mentioned by tiger2)

.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

True, I didn't think there'd be any more singing the first time I listened to Purple Rain, then suddenly that part came on and I was in awe. He did that part very well at the Superbowl too.
