could Prince "dumb" himself down to get back on top of the charts??

let's face it folks, the JT's, Beyonce's, of the the music world are an embarrassment. I just just read an interview with "Tim" and how he'll be working with all these artists.

I am sorry...I don't see his greatness as he proclaims he has...

Prince is one of the most talemted artitsts out there, do you think he could "dumb" down his tslent to compete with the "tims" and "pharells" of the the world and put some decent radio music???

I think Prince only ever competes with himself. No.

He will need a baseball cap first. However, I don't think it would be an easy compromise for him to wear one because it would mess up his typhffoon.

The only way Prince would be top of the charts would be if he did a duet with someone popular, or some group did a (popular band) vs. Prince mix/cover.

most of this is "dumbed-down" copying of prince's style in the first place.

and prince is at his worst when he's trying to anticipate mainstream trends through his music.

one word: RAVE.

yeah, but D&P still took some chances. "gett off" was an incredibly audacious lead single, i think. plus i think he had the wits about him to mold mainstream pop into HIS sound and not vice versa. i think 3121 came somewhat close to him doing that again.

Prince has been dumbing down the majority of his music for the last 11 years. It still didn't get him to the top of the charts.

Why should Prince make chart or radio friendly music? Fuck the charts, and fuck the radio.
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

The charts are teenagers games and for musicians in there 20's. Really that's all it is. a rep. of what teenagers are listing too. And who's topping the charts? Beyonce (20 something) Justin Timberlake (20 something) What ever crap band (20 Something). Sure bands like U2 have sucess on the charts. But when was the last time you saw a 15 year old telling you Bono and The Edge are like sooooo hooooot! Always been that way.... want to re-wind to 1984 topping charts was.. Prince (20 something) Michael Jackson (20 something) Madonna (20 something)

And it will always be that way.....

True, true.

I don't really care either way if Prince is on the top of the charts or not. He sure doesn't seem to care whether or not he's on top, just as long as people still dig his music.

well, that's what i mean...for 1991, 'gett off' was pretty ballsy. the assless pants, sure, and the video, but the song itself. even the title! but it was a great pop song - a fun, trashy party song - he knew what he was doing.

The ONLY reson Prince has not been on the charts over the last decade IS because his music was dumbed down, His music was never as cringeworthy until after 88.
Fams dont want to admit it , but its the truth.
Anybody int he music indutry will tell you the same thing

I used to think all that Prince cared about was being at the top of the charts.

"Can't quit, gotta get another hit."

Now, I don't think so. I don't think chart-topping is his biggest concern anymore. I think he's heeding some deep spiritual, celestial call now.
"Plaid shorts are completely over."

i think some of prince's most daring and interesting work was in the mid-90s. it wasn't mainstream successful, and his ACTIONS may have been cringeworthy at times, but i think he made some really amazing music post-88.

Of course he can!

The Diamonds and Pearls album was a step into that direction: but fortunately (apart from the tracks ruined by Tony M.) his music was intelligent enough, and his band great enough, to say: sell out!

He surely showed it with the unbelievably sappy and polished 'the most beautifull girl in the world'. A pity he scored a worldwide hit with that, because it brought us more soulless, plastic R&B ballads in the form of: The One, the greatest romance ever sold and Incense and Candles.

Prince has better songs than "Black Sweat", but I agree that it's a good song on itself. There are better hits on 3121 that make it worth buying. Me, I did it for 2 reasons.
a) It's the latest from Prince
b) I'm already familiar with half of the tracks

Every track on it is worth a good listen.

Well I'm telling you they didn't buy it after hearing the rest of the CD.
