Fury and Guitar, same theme? Lyrically, I see a big similarity between these two. Is this the truth behind the break-up in a simply put way? (i.e. he rather be out putting a band together, shows, playing his guitar in general than having the quiet, happy home life- yes, I know this is not news, his workaholic tendencies are well documented).
And, many got down on Guitar for what they called simple or basic lyrics, but if this is the story behind a divorce, I would say it's not really so simple for him. Anyone? Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"

I think u are correct. Prince usually tells the story of his life in the music. He just doesn't make it explicit. Guitar is funny, insightful, and a lil bit sad.

If you got married to Prince it looks like you would know what your getting yourself into. I mean it's no secret that he would be all about the music. All artist are all about the art first. They can't help it; it's God given.

Well, I guess that's what I was getting at- that this song may very well be "explicit" or at least more so than some give it credit for. Maybe that really is the whole story (between the 2 songs) and that he's realizing, and therefore writing about the fact that he cannot put it aside even to save his marriage. I've always thought it had to be at least part of the problem with Mayte as well- considering how he went ahead promoting and touring with Emancipation immediately after the tragedy instead of spending time with her, to grieve and rebuild their relationship. However, the songs that people assume were written about her at the end, do not touch on this theme. Is it possible he never realized clearly until now how much his love for the music would always override his most important relationship? Or as some would say, has he really begun to run out of things to write about so he's back to the obvious? Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"

You're assuming that the woman isn't thinking she may be "the one" to change him? [Edited 3/12/07 12:12pm]
