What was the Best cover of a Prince song you've ever heard?

ok, so you got the worst going.

now the best.

And the best cover of a prince song that i've ever heard goes to:

Raspberry Beret by the Hindu Love Gods.

That's off the top of my head.
It's a cool rockin version with a very original take on it.

Two of 'em:

Sinead's "Nothing Compares 2 U" and Cyndi Lauper's "When U Were Mine." Both very interesting, slower takes on two nice lyrics.

I hear a cover of Nothing Compares to U, which wasn't Sinead's. It was great, very minimum arrangement and beautiful vocals. I have no idea who it was.

For some reason, I love Stephanie Mills' version of How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore. It is very interesting 2 hear this song sang by a woman. This version seems to have a country vibe. LOVE IT!

I forgot about that one. JJ does a lovely rendition of that song. I love the earnestness and passion in her voice when she sings, "Always, always wanna be with you..."

My favorite Prince covers are "If I Was Your Girlfriend" by TLC, "Do Me, Baby" by Me'lisa Morgan, and "Don't Talk 2 Strangers" by Chaka Khan. I like Jordan Knight's version of "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man", because I think it sounds better slowed down, not because I think he's a good singer or did a good job of covering the song. I just think that it sounds better mellowed out. I feel the same way about the more relaxed version of "Gotta Broken heart Again" from the "Live at the Aladdin" DVD. I don't like the album version of this song, but the DVD version is sensational. Love It!!!

Yeah, he hooked that jam up, didn't he? I was shocked. He slowed it down and owned it.

biggrin I absolutely love the lyrics to this song, but in the original version, I feel that they get lost in the up-tempo beat. It's not an up-tempo song to me. The lyrics tell such a heartbreaking story that to make it sound upbeat takes away from the song. I know many Prince fans hate Jordan's version, but I have to give him credit for totally flipping the song and making it sound different. Most covers sound a little too much like the original, which makes it pointless. This isn't kareoke.
