One that worked and one that didn't... I have always thought that pulling the Black Album was more of a career stunt than anything else. Prince knew he was at the height of his powers and pulled the album in an attempt to make the most bootlegged, infamous album in history. I thought it was a genius move. Then I thought that he got pissed off at WB for not allowing him to release like 5 albums a year cause he knew he'd make a lot of money off it if he could and be the biggest richest artist in the world. He knew he had the fanbase. But WB were going more for longevity than a huge score. Anyone else think these are more likely reasons for these things?

I'd say, as a whole, his firing people as soon as he'd outgrow them, from musicians to the early managers. You have to be in the music business to understand how small mindedness really stops progress. Also, maybe his release of Dirty Mind, it freed him up for his later commercial triumph.
