That's caused by the stupid blank screen thing that seems to haunt the Org. I took a good 3 minutes coming up with that reply, too.

well, since this thread was revived....I'd agree here. They've proven to be great producers (i.e. hits), and they know what Prince wants/wanted/etc.....Isn't that what makes a great producer? Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"

Prince does not need to work with any producer other than himself.
I think that he's done an excellent job for the past 30 years! It's not about "hits" with him and that's what I LOVE! He follows his own create voice/vision and that keeps him unique. He's not like Madonna or some of these other talent-limited folks who don't even have an individual sound. They just sound like whichever producer they work with at the time, and mimic whatever sound is hot - for the moment. It is such a shame that people cannot fully appreciate Prince's unmitigated, self-contained talent simply because they want him to sound like everyone else in order to top the charts. Making "hit" records that top the charts is not synonymous with creating good, timeless music - or talent. It only reflects the momentary tastes of the larger music-buying public, which unfortunately at the present time has no palate for real music, talent or individuality. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

I was just trying to answer the question posed (as a what-if type question)...Although, he brought back "Prince" for Rave and I strongly dislike that album and most def. consider that a reflection of him trying to "mimic" the current "hot" sound. which is exactly why I do not like it- I wanted Prince to "save" me from all that crap I was hearing, and he gave "me" Rave. Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"

Oh, I'm not dogging you personally. It just irritates me when people suggest that Prince needs to work with other producers. It seems that so many people around here cannot accept this great gift [his music] that the man has tirelessly shared with us for so many years. Instead they find fault because they are trying to confine his music to their myopic expectations. Just let him do what he does. If you dig it cool, if not, go listen to something produced by Timbaland. With regard to Rave, though it is not one of my fav Prince albums, there are some divinely Princely moments on it. To me The Greatest Romance... didn't sound like anything out at the time, and doesn't sound like anything out now. That is Prince being Prince to me, producing his own unique brand of timeless originals. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

I think Prince does a geat job produceing himself. If I was a musician that could produce myself I would definitely do it.

I agree that Prince doesn't need to be produced by anyone else and I don't want him to sound like everybody else just to get hits on the radio.
I would like to play "the devil's advocate" in a sense and ask this question. When/if Prince produces others do their tracks just sound like Prince, do they just take on the infamous so=called "Minneapolis Sound", a Prince aura or flavor? Discuss.....
