vainandy said: Prince has been around so long, I think the main way he still survives financially is by sales by fans replacing old stuff that wore out. Probably right!!! PS: I even had "Controversy" on 8 Track at one time as well as the vinyl. . Now that's an old school fan right there!!! I'll admit, my first Prince vinyl was Purple Rain- I have everything from there through Batman on vinyl. I already had 1999 on cassette from before I became a hard core fan. When I went back to buy the first 4 albums (in 1984), I don't believe I saw them in the store on vinyl- but don't remember if I really looked. Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"
They've taken a lifetime lease on Paisley Park ...

This album is alright. I'm not too wild over Dirty Mind. It's My least favorite album from Prince in the 80's Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

Phenomenal Princey! So much lusty joy, honey wildness and musical creativity. A lot of especial things at the same time.

After "For You" Prince was under a lot of pressure from Warner Bros. to come out with a legitimate, "hit" album, so he goes into the studio and does just that; writes a contemporary album that sounds just like everything else that was out there. After the tremendous sucess of "Prince", he went back into the studio and recoreded the kind of album that HE wanted to do, thus "Dirty Mind"....

i read in one of the bios that it was not even meant to be released. that it was just demos. but his manager or some WB guy heard it and said he should release it.

This album was so revolutionary and ahead of it's time. The sound, themes and synthesis of punk/funk. I always thought that there was a lot of great cover material for other bands and artists today.
The first time I heard this album was when a friend of mine (Reggie A. where are you?) played Sister in the back of our 7th Grade Human Sexuality class from a tape player in his backpack. I was immediately hooked and borrowed/stole the tape. P should have been the source material for the class.

Isn't there a song about that very incident on Dirty Mind? that sounds like a difficult thing to do...

I agree, this album is classic! It's my second favorite Prince album (after '1999').Every song is brilliant."Head" and "Partyup" are two of Prince's most amazing funk jams.Damn,I miss that era

When was the last time P was so beautifully underproduced. Even the artwork had a dirty, grungy, nasty, raw vibe. Is this the first appearance of "Jamie Starr"?

I don't wanna sound like a fascist here, but don't call yourself a true Prince and then say you don't like this album. No true fan should be without this album. Exactly! LOL! That should be grounds for an immediate banning!

It's so funny how the guitars on the album are really thin and clean-sounding, yet the vibe is so Punk Rock. See how amazing Prince is? NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

co-sign my fav Prince album EVER! "When U Were Mine" "Gotta Broken Heart Again" "Head"/"Sister" and the very words I live by "where I come from, we don't give a damn we do whatever we please" (from "Uptown") because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

This was the blueprint for what was to come. I remember when this was first released like it was yesterday. Very, very crucial album. In music in general. A stone classic. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

There was nothing like this at the time, and not since. Now where I come from We don't let society tell us how it's supposed 2 be Our clothes, our hair, we don't care It's all about being there Everybody's going Uptown.....
