fantasia, family, and sweet thing cd's I have been doing a lot of travelling lately for work and I have rediscovered some Prince-ly joys. I have really been rocking the fantasia bootleg, sweet thing boot, and the family cd(along with the non-prince related Egyptian Lover cd). I mean really.
Now,Fantasia is an older boot from the late '90's that I hadn't even picked up in ages. The sound quality is incredible and it's all outtakes and unreleased segues and so forth. I can do without Carmen Electra ,but the New Power Madhouse version of the 24 album is shaking my butt right now. I used to not even notice these tracks.I am surprised P never released these in the '90's because I feel that it would have been a seriously successful "jazz" album. It's not challenging in any way,but they are very likeable and funky. This would have been worn out on those neo-jazz stations.Maybe it still would be if he released them.He even does a smooved-out version of "space" and a 40 and over "jazz expressions" version of Marvin Gaye's "(got 2)give it up". Sweet Thing is a fantastic audience recording that is pretty flawless of a Glam Slam Astoria show. The sound quality is really top shelf and the music is really funky and,of course, well played.George Benson shows up for Glam Slam Boogie and Chaka Khan tears it up with the band for 2 cuts. I really recommend this joint. I am currently of the opinion that The Family cd is one of the best cd's of all time! It was pretty ahead of its time. The music combines pop,Prince's version of pop, funk, jazz, funk, and r&b.The sound quality of the cd-r I have is really incredible. I have been blasting these cd's in my car of late and I haven't been the only one bobbing my head. And right about now,"asswhoop" by New Power Madhouse along with "high fashion" and "mutiny" by The Family are making me feel like the coolest!Get this funk NOW and mush it in your face!!!
