[Edited 3/7/07 10:00am] The funniest part is that the mom said that her son WILL be gay now. Did her son tell her that he was? Can this woman tell the future? This is just too crazy. [Edited 3/7/07 10:08am] Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com

And secondly, I find it quite interesting that you, vainandy, are such a staunch supporter of disco seeing as you also claim to be a lover of the funk, the anti-disco. Funk is far from being anti-disco. Really, disco was simply funk at a faster tempo. Disco was very funky. Also, when disco died, funk was the closest sounding thing to it. That's why I got into funk in the first place. If disco hadn't died, I would have never gone searching for something similar and would still be listening to pop radio instead of R&B radio. Listen to stuff like "Firecracker" by Mass Production. That is funk that was definately influenced by disco. Also, songs like "Let It Whip" by The Dazz Band that came out three years later after disco's death, still wind up on disco compilations that were made by people that don't know a hill of beans about disco or funk. Yet, they do sense that disco influence in the song. They just don't seem to have the knowledge about the time period that disco "died". I could see where one COULD make comparisons, but funny that when all is said and done, disco's legacy has more to do with nosatlgia and novelty. While funk's legacy has lived on in books, Hip Hop, and even inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are not called two different things for no reason. Many a funk purist (George Clinton, considered by many to be the Godfather of funk, among them) say that disco was bascially a soulless extension of what funk IS. Also in the same vein, you're a Hip Hop hater. And I recall when folks tried to lump it in with disco as a fad, which disco eventually proved to be.
I loved hip hop in the early years. It was more like disco than funk was. A lot of rap during that time was at a faster "disco tempo" than funk was. It's when hip hop slowed the tempo down and turned to shit hop that I started hating it. A lot of hip hop had songs that were original and made with instruments from the ground up. When it turned to nothing but a slow weak beat with a sample as the foundation, it turned to shit hop and should have been a fad. However, by then it had major corporations that were going to make sure it stayed alive because it was cheap to make. Also, unlike disco, shit hop was as anti-gay as you could possibly get and dumbasses really love that. Sooooo... a slower BPM and a sample = shit hop.LOLZZZZZ Got it.

They are not called two different things for no reason. And so has disco. Disco lived on in house music and as for hip hop, it was Chic's "Good Times" (a disco record) that was used by The Sugarhill Gang in "Rapper's Delight" that started the whole craze. As for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, disco still has a bad name from the backlash it got. Who do you think it was that was burning the records in that stadium? It was pop/rock fans. Many a funk purist (George Clinton, considered by many to be the Godfather of funk, among them) say that disco was bascially a soulless extension of what funk IS.
And at the same time, other funk groups like The Barkays and The Isley Brothers, made a disco record during the era. Even James Brown did. Sooooo... a slower BPM and a sample = shit hop.LOLZZZZZ Got it.
Not just that, but the stripping off of all instruments and anything that would give it rhythm. It became nothing but a beat and some "talking". Ask some of these youngsters how they can stand to listen to it and the first thing they will say is...."listen to what they are saying" or "that artist is a poet". Well, if it's on a record and being played in a club, it needs to be "music", not a damn "poem set to nothing but a slow beat". Andy is a four letter word.

As I said in a previous thread regarding this issue: Man, there are some stupid people in the fucking world today.
How in the world are ou gonna get upset about something that you might've thought Prince might or might now have done? I think people are just looking for any sort of excuse to bitch about the halftime show. Because Janet raised the bar in terms of scandal, people are gonna judge every subsequent act upon that. Right, so because Prince was on rocking the fuck out (), some idiot's kid will now acquire a virus and may convert to an alternative lifestyle. Janet's performance was understandable, but I think they even made too much of that. Everyone has nipples. It's just because she's known as the nice and most sane Jackson that her performance caused an uproar. People need to grow the fuck up. Sheesh. Man, SKIP "Rapper's Delight"!!!! T'was not Hip Hop. It wasn't called "Hip Hop Delight". It was the brainchild of record exec who wanted get paid. The "craze" was started several years before that. As for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, disco still has a bad name from the backlash it got. Who do you think it was that was burning the records in that stadium? It was pop/rock fans. So because some pop/rock (read white) fans lost their minds one day, the RROHOF doesn't hold weight? And at the same time, other funk groups like The Barkays and The Isley Brothers, made a disco record during the era. I don't know of ANY youngsters claiming to like rap music beacuse of it's poetry. The heads I know usually say it's the beat that grabs 'em (however mundane said beat can be). When I'm in a Hip Hop club, I usually am not dancing because it's a different atmosphere than a discotech. And vice versa, if I go to the gay bar, I don't expect to hear Public Enemy.

Maybe so but it was the first to be played on R&B stations nationwide which gave everyone exposure to it. So because some pop/rock (read white) fans lost their minds one day, the RROHOF doesn't hold weight?
And most of the black artists that have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been artists that white people have knowledge of. They are very biased. The stadium incident was enough to start a backlash of hatred against disco, mainly by white people. The hatred still exists to this day and if they don't like it, neither does the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I don't know of ANY youngsters claiming to like rap music beacuse of it's poetry. The heads I know usually say it's the beat that grabs 'em (however mundane said beat can be).
I've heard some say that too and my response to them is "What beat? The beat you are talking about is weak as hell and barely taps. It also nevers gets past midtempo so it sure as hell can't be rhythm that you like". Then it comes down to them saying "Listen to what they are saying in the lyrics". They don't know why the hell they like it themselves. All they know is their friends like it and so do they. It's all they know because it has dominated for so long that they were born into the bullshit. They have nothing to compare it to. When I'm in a Hip Hop club, I usually am not dancing because it's a different atmosphere than a discotech. And vice versa, if I go to the gay bar, I don't expect to hear Public Enemy.
Well, I wish you would tell that to the gay clubs in my area. I used to exclusively go to the black gay club which played house music. Now, all they play is shit hop so I go to the white gay club which plays trance (or whatever it's called). It sounds horrible but at least I can tolerate it, which is more than I can say for shit hop. Andy is a four letter word.
