Actually i heard sometime ago , it was a short man who invented high heels to make himself taller. I can't remember his name. Prince isn't the first , but he pretty much wear them for what they were invented for.

Actually Steve Stevens (from Billy Idol's band) and Phil Oakey (Human League) were known for wearing high heels.

Nope. The 1981 film "So Fine" introduced us to buttless pants.

Actually, there probably aren't many things that Prince was the first one to do...although we might like to think so.

What makes him special, IMO, would be his mastery of all kinds of different elements - musical or otherwise - and the ability to combine them into unique results.

There are other musicians and artists out there who are just as versatile as Prince (and perhaps even more). But few have at the same time displayed such strong emotional contents and personal ways of expression.

Was Prince really the first to have a PA warning label on his CDs. That cool as!

I don't know whose CD was first, but the whole concept for putting PA labels
started with Tipper Gore and her disgust with Purple Rain...
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Yeah, I don't remember anyone else with the microphone shaped like a gun before Prince and I haven't seen anyone with one since him.

Who the fuck would be caught dead with something so retarded? Grats to Prince for a singular invention, but he isn't the most unique person in those regards. Like someone else said, it isn't that Prince is (at all) exceptionally inventive, but he melds dozens of ideas into one cohesive tapestry and it works. He's gifted at patchworking ideas.

I may be mistaken, but this outfit has to be a first. I know the lead singer from Cameo wore a codpiece, but he wasn't nearly as sexy as Prince in this photo. Prince does combine styles from Jimi, Little Richard, and others, and melds them with his own uniqueness. As spinlight said, "He's gifted at patchworking.."

He can patchwork my quilt any day, any time.

Most people here seem to go for the clothes and hairstyles, but what about his music, isnt that the most important thing in the first place?

For me, musically, Prince has originated the following things:
- The creative use of drummachines in popular music;
- Continuing on the path layed out by people like the Beatles, Hendrix, Sly Stone and George Clinton in terms of mixing 'white' and 'black' musical styles.
- The perception of what pop musicians are, should do, or should be: he played with that a lot: releasing around the world in a day, right behind Purple Rain, wanting to release a triple album (Dream factory / Crystal Ball) in 1987, freeing himselve from the influence of the big record companies, releasing his music via the internet (NPGmusicclub)
- An often overseen musical influence: mixing electronic / electronically altered beats with strings and orchestra (by Clare Fisher), that influence is spreading as broad as the music of Bjork and Massive Attack to the more commerical Hip-hop producers and the people behind the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears.

Prince was the first to sing a song about an animated baby deer who was a lesbian who needed guidance from Prince to make her a real woman, just like a female Pinocchio who cried just like a dove but would die for a female sheep bleeting in purple rain whilst working up a black sweat being taken up the rear by a horny pony.

I was wondering was I the only person who thought that! When I became a Delta years ago, I had to check myself at Prince concerts, "am I oo-ooping or o o wah- ing?" confuse

And more importantly, what is Prince doing?
