Guitar is a disgrace.

I downloaded that track the other week.

I was glad I read about it first.

Why call a song Guitar and not include some killer rock guitar.

After the superbowl and the Best of U cover I was expecting a real rock direction.

Prince so badly needs to Rock.

For me wont have a made a truly great record until he plugs in the guitar and turns it up and makes a real raw rock record.

I think if he did that he would then get respect.

I never got into Prince for the fluff he's put out over the last 15 or so years. There have been moments, half The Gold Experience, Chaos and Disorder,The Undertaker. He shoud make records like these not pap.

Leave the funk alone unless you make electronic cold hard rocking stuff like Purple Rain.

Why must guitar "Rock". What's wrong with accoustic guitar? The song was simply titled Guitar. Prince did not come out and proclaim anything other than the title. Maybe you should start changing what your expectations are of him.

Personally I thought it would have very little guitar, because I almost expect the opposite these days from Prince. If it had no guitar I would have laughed my ass off.

I'm not surprised.

Tamborine was not about a tamborine.

Exactly! I mean, if every song he released was so easily interpreted...where's the fun in that?

The beauty of being a P fan is mainly the mystery surrounding his musical output, and the contents of the material released. C'mon now...you didn't seriously believe it would have been as easy as thinking "Guitar" was a "rock" song based on it's name, did you?

Silly rabbit...

So, you read about it first and then downloaded it and now you think it's a disgrace.
Did you download it just to give yourself the right to complain about it? If you read about it beforehand, then you must have known that it was a wonderful piece of pop-fluff that included hardly any guitar. If he recorded a song called 'Mani' a couple of years ago, would you have expected her to sing on it and been disappointed if she didn't?

it's nice as an occasional download, which it is.

i don't think it will feature on any album and it
was probably just released to test the water of a
new online store on 3121.com

nothing to rave about though. it's a nice song to
have. wish he would release more of these instead
of locking them in his vault.

they might not be stellar or anything but i still
enjoy new prince music when i can get it.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

i feel the exact same way. i didn't think it was anything fantastic, but it was a welcome little sign of life from the man, and it was worth the dollar or two i paid for it. i don't listen to it now, but i'm sure seven years from now i'll stumble across it and be all like 'oh YEAH, this is that weird little thing he released before the superbowl, let's give it a spin..." shrug

He's gotta work on the guitar sound on his albums though. I find myself loving the audio of the superbowl/press conference tracks and it is mostly because there are actual guitar solos you can hear clearly.

I'm stealing somebody else's lines here (can't remember who's, sorry) but there are four things in life you can be sure of. The sun will rise tomorrow, death, taxes, and so long as he's able, Prince will release a new album as soon as he can.

it would be a travesty! we'll be stuck with the scant four or five dozen albums he's already released, not to mention the truckloads of bootleggage circulating. i couldn't live in a world where i couldn't have a follow-up to 'musicology' and '3121'.
