I hope you guys will spread this link to as many people as you can. I've seen petition links make worthy news stories from time to time.

As flattered I'm sure Prince and the NFL would be about this petition, the halftime show isn't about "topping" one another.

Diversity is the key, Prince was an obvious great choice for the Super Bowl, especially considering recent past performances. Obvious to those with knowledge of entertainment and more importantly, obvious to those with knowledge of the musical talent/gifts of Prince.

Back to diversity - There are a number of talented performers who would be great choices at entertaining the crowd as well, and countless number of people who would love to see the trend of various artist continue.

Prince did his thing, remember it! Catch him jammin' sometime soon if u can.

Allow this petition to end now before it stirs way more negativity than positive.

Paix!

I know right. lol I love Prince but why on earth would you as an event coordinator for the SB have the same halftime preformer two years in a row?

it's still overkill if its the same artists. Prince did his thing. Time for someone else to step up to the plate for the challenge.

I'd dare them to find anyone to top Prince.

Ok, maybe that's asking too much, but at least someone that I listen to, can relate to, whose music I enjoy, etc.

I didn't listen to Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones and couldn't care less for either of them. I still kinda have my doubts that anyone who played GOOD music could at least do an above average job and keep my attention.

Good news for me is that they really don't want to take their chances with relatively new artists because I really don't listen anyone mainstream anymore.

If I could offer anyone up for the job, maybe... I don't know, the Bangles? I doubt they could put up the same kind of show, but they have good music overall.

Prince is hardly likely to want to repeat, at least not for a couple years. Been there, done that.

Next act would need to be:

An established act, someone the NFL crowd has at least heard of before
Someone with a couple of songs everyone knows the words to
Someone with a family-friendly reputation
Someone not afraid to be compared to Prince's performance (as will inevitably happen)

Any suggestions?
I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

Uh. . . cuz it's Prince rolleyes

Besides, he could do an entirely different set for the next 10 years and STILL be better that any safe, decrepit, has-been rocker they could dust off and prop up on a stage during halftime.

that's how we may see it as fans because we are familiar with his vast work. However, the average Superbowl fan will see him as that Purple Rain guy, even after a hands down kick ass performance like the halftime show. I'm just saying Prince made history by performing the best show ever, so let's leave it at that and not fuck up a good thing. Like I said, its overkill in my opinion.

Someday, Jesse McCartney, but it'll never happen cuz:
1) He's not famous enough
2) he's still a fairly new artist and NFL will see him as a risk (the whole reason they dont' hire new artists anymore)
3) Even with the huge fan I am, I know that he could never top Prince.
* his lyrics are good, but Prince's go deeper
* Jesse co-writes his songs, Prince wrote them himself
* I don't think Jesse even plays an instrument to be honest, Prince can play 27 diff. ones
4) Nobody (except me) really cares about him all that much.

Sorry JMac, but Prince puts you to shame in the music industry in too many ways to count.

Just imagine in 2008, Prince performs Manic Monday (maybe Manic Sunday?), When Doves Cry, Little Red Corvette, or U Got The Look, some other covers (maybe Beatles or even Sade) or throw in a new song and end it with Diamond & Pearls.

That would be pretty cool, heh. Although covers aren't exactly his best point, it's just not the same when he's not doing his own material.

Sorry Guys but It's going to be Bruce Springsteen, well this is what they said
during the Oscar's telecast (and Nora Jones) to do the National Anthem
[Edited 2/28/07 8:15am]

Well Bruce and Nora is at the top of the list for next year

Post Staff Writer
February 27, 2007 -- BRUCE Springsteen is being considered for next year's Super Bowl halftime show.

Springsteen, along with Norah Jones, is at the top of the NFL's wish-list for halftime performers, according to Variety.

The NFL has snared huge names the past few years in the wake of Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" - with Prince, the Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney performing.

Album sales for all of these performers jumped after their Super Bowl exposure, reports Variety.

That would take away from his fantastic 2007 performance if he performed there in 2008 and it would not be as memorable.
