Sign 'O' The Times So I'm listening to SOTT right now and I was just thinking that Prince is such a genius I mean these lyrics are still relevant today with everything going on in the world. It sounds like it was recorded yesterday. Someone once had a thread on here asking what makes an artist relevant and in my eyes this type of song does. It can be relative to the 80's, 90's and now. Prince is a true artist

That album cemented it for me as a fan. I kind of liked his stuff, but I heard the title track and thought, "Oh yeah" .
I've been hooked ever since! "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

I ESPECIALLY felt the relevancy after the SECOND shuttle disaster and Hurricane Katrina. The title track gave me chills when I listened to it a week after the whole Katrina mess hit. I live in Dallas so we all knew people that were affected since Louisiana is right next door. Also, up to that point one of the last times I had seen Prince in concert was at the Superdome in New Orleans the year before at the Essence Festival. Another memorable show. . . the first after John B's daughter had passed away.

Ohh the memories,
SOTT came out my senior year in high school. I was still enjoying the Parade album and 12" singles and B-sides. I had just come home from a trip to France with my high school french class and my Mom got me SOTT as a present. I remember wandering thru Paris and finding Marie-Claire which is/was a designer or clothes maker at the that time. And Prince had used them for some clothes. I was graduating High School and going to college and listened to SOTT all summer. Ahhhhh. Then I go to college and almost everyone I met in college DID NOT listen to Prince. It was all Boston and the Eagles. Thank god I found friends that liked U2 and REM or I would have gone truly mad. But for the most part I was one of some 3-4 people who liked Prince in college. But SOTT was/is still great. Chris

I've been hooked ever since! Funny cause that's the same thing Prince said at the beginning of that track. Whenever I play this song, and it comes to the part when Prince says. "At home there are 17 year old boys and their idea of fun is being in gang called the disciples high on crack totin a machine gun", I have this friend who says " Oh yeah I remember that gang the disciples and those n*ggas were crazy! It never fails everytime. I love this song though it is 2 funkky! I also liked the way he did it on the Musicology tour.
