This song just moves me in a way that is unbelievable,the same effect it had on me in 87,is the same effect it had on me when I listened this weekend.
I don't know why this song just takes my breath away,it just does.
The song is perfect ear candy-the keyboards,drums,vocals
And I love the way he says can I get some of that..wait a minute


I can just imagine him all overjoyed and cuddling with Susannah when he finished recording it.

Agree with everything-xcept the cuddling with Susannah part.

We're gonna be free without the help of a margarita or ecstasy... yes a lovely thought.

I love the version on "Sign O the times" the movie, and the way it segues into "Little Red Corvette"...

It a really fun pop number. It's pop at it's best. Invoking a real sense of joy and happiness. Couple that with the lyrics and you have pure exhuberance There is a recurring musical theme. three musical chords. They first appears at 57 - 59 seconds in, then again 1:12-1:13, then again and again. They appear again and again in the song coming back fiercer and stronger, driving themselves through the landscape of this gem. Prince refusing to play and then at the insistence of the group, agreeing yes!!!! The musical breakdown afterwards is simply bad to the freakin core. Badass deluxe. Pop songs aren't supposed to turn into rock festivals but this one does. One of his best songs EVER.

That version, like the film version of I Could Never Take The Place, Sign O The Times and The Cross are miles above what he put out on the record. I the drums are played "live", meaning they are not programmed but he plays electronic drums.

Don't you thinks its way too Seasame Street!! i think this has dated really badly. I'd hate a non purplehead to listen to this, i'd just be sooo embarassed!.

I had SOTT the movie on "video" before I got the album and it did suffer by comparison. I think "Housequake", "Hot Thing" and "Forever in My Life" are better in their more "synthetic" studio form though

going back to "play in the sunshine" I get off on the weirdness of it all. Rock n' roll put through the strange purple filter

This track, along with the whole album, would really benefit from a remaster. Turn the guitar up a little in the mix.

It has to be one of Prince's most uptempo songs. I love it. I wish he did more songwriting like that.

Play In The Sunshine: Yet another great song he won't ever play live again, or if he ever does, it will be part of some Medley. Place Computer Blue on this list along with Darling Nikki, Thieves in the Temple, Forever In My Life (Full version). It's a shame. Of course, go to an afterparty, and someone will probably sing I'll Take you There, and of course The Ride will be driven again and again and again. Not that those are bad songs, but overplayed? Yes.
