Don't have any articles to add to the topic, but it does make sense that he is doing a Beatles album. He's been playing a lot of their songs lately, and wasn't Michael Jackson his 3121 concert earlier in the month? Michael owns the majority of the Beatles cataloge.....it's really the only thing that has kept him financially solvent the last few years, and Prince would need to obtain the rights from MJ. Pretty risky in my opinion. I mean if anyone could pull off an album like this it is Prince, but Beatles fans a just as much purists as Prince fans are. We really don't like anyone else doing his stuff and I'm sure a good portion of Beatles fan would say "What the Bloody Hell is This?"

Man... I dunno. At first I thought hell no..

But I just imagined how Prince might perform "Blackbird", on an acoustic guitar... it could really be amazing if he does it right...

When rumours first started floating around about Bruce Springsteen's album of Pete Seeger covers, there was a roar of disbelief and discontent in the online communities... the rumours turned out to be true however, and the resulting album turned out to be quite good as well...(but not great)... this kinda reminds me of that... geek

I think MJ sold most of his catalogue including the Beatles songs (which is not all of them but some of them) to Pepsi when he needed some capital a while back. So Prince would have to be asking them for permission.

Let's not exaggerate, Prince has only played 2 Beatles songs recently, Come Together and The Long and Winding Road, a huge Beatles project that does not make.

IMO all we have at this moment are indeed rumours only.

I mean, if he really is planning to release a Beatles cover-album, why didn't he play a Beatles song during the Superbowl? And why he only covered 2 Beatles songs during his concerts in Las Vegas?

But, of course, with Prince you never know what is gonna happen next and its fun to speculate a bit biggrin

Maybe he's gonna a movie remake of the BeeJees/Peter Frampton cult-classic Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, with P playing the role Maurice Gibb.

I really think this could sound pretty good, you know...

... but if he dares Princify them, like "Maxwell's Purple Hammer", "Paisley Fields Forever" or "eye 1 2 hold Ur hand" I will not be impressed!

That song is GORGEOUS! I heard Paul sing it in concert a year ago, and it was very moving. It's one of my all time favorite songs.

I'm a huge Beatles fan, and I'd love to hear Prince's take on some of their songs. (It's not like they haven't been covered before) I would really like to hear Prince cover "Helter Skelter" (because it ROCKS!), and "Oh Darling". I can just imagine him wailing on that one! His screams are perfect for it.

He doesn't care what the fans think! lol

Seriously tho, Prince has done many projects that fans haven't liked very much. It doesn't stop him from doing them, it will just stop certain people from buying them.

If you don't like the Beatles (or just the idea of Prince covering the Beatles), this will be one less album in your collection.
