Prince song in "Little Miss Sunshine" (Possible Spoiler)

In the original script, Rick James' "Superfreak" wasn't the song that was to be used in the finale of "Little Miss Sunshine." The song in the original script was "Peach" by Prince.

Michael Arndt (who won the Academy Award for "Best Writing, Original Screenplay" for "Little Miss Sunshine") speaks about this in the commentary track on the DVD. When he was writing the scene, he was listening to "Peach," so he just wrote it into the script.

The screenwriter and co-directors don't mention specifically why "Peach" wasn't used. Since they chose the extended version of "Superfreak," I'll speculate that it's possible that they were looking for a song that was longer than "Peach"'s 3:48 run time.

Just thought that might be interesting to some of you. Especially to those of you that loved the film... smile

I was really liking the extended version of "Superfreak" that they went with. Can't really picture it with Peach although I kinda like that song.

'peach' wouldn't have worked as well. the familiarity with the rick james song is part of what made that scene so funny.

I think I would have liked to hear Peach instead of Superfreak. I think that Superfreak is used too much - hearing Peach would've been a little bit different, and the movie would've received a few more cool points lol

I think, in the commentary, they insuated something about
getting the rights to Super Freak was easier.

I would go & listen to the commentary again to verify,
but I don't feel like it right now.
