NEWS, the most under-rated of Prince's albums. More intricate and more depth than Lovesexy in my opinion. Who needs words when the music can speak so loud?

gotta be in the mood for it, but i think it's criminally underrated and not at all deserving of the jeers it gets around here. i'd rather he make albums like this where he just lets his talent run free, than stuff like 'rave' where he's trying too hard to be radio-friendly.

and when he does stuff like this or 'undertaker' or the ONA piano record, that's when he gets more hipster cred.

I really want to dig it back out now. I like it very much. I admire the fact that Prince is willing to explore all kinds of music, and make records that HE likes. I also happen to love experimental jazz, so this album was right up my alley. cool

I just got this CD last weekend when I was in Los Angeles and I must say it's so much better than Karmasutra. I was in a jazz mood and this was a perfect fit. Besides the traffic in LA was horrible and I needed something to calm me down....

This album was just further proof that usually Prince's best work results from him not trying to make an album for the masses.

I agree.

Not to start anything, but Prince normal? Is that an oxymoron? Even Prince's attempts at commercial success have been tinged with his own uniqueness that is anything but normal. Whenever I listen to anything from his catalog, it is so distinctly Prince that I can't imagine anyone else doing it. Some people always point to Rave, Diamonds & Pearls or Musicology as attempts at commerical success, but at the end of the day the songs on those albums are still very Princely to me.
