Did Rick James' "Mary Jane" have an influence in Prince's production?

no doubt about it, i always thought the music was similar to Ricks's in this song.both great funkateers, Rick's sound was more street, urbane and hard.

No, vanity. Appelonia didn't really have much a real relationship to Prince.

Yeah, the deluxe is incredible, smoking musicians on live performance, the man also had great rapport with the audience, fantastic, commanding. Also interesting how the tunes were all uptempo.

Please don't be mad at me because I mean no harm. If u r a sensitive person I apologize in advance. Ur post is laughable on so many differnt levels. Prince and Rick James were "rivelries" ( I take it u meant rivals). The spelling of Apollonia. Prince stole Apollonia from Rick James. lol Don't get mad at me I'm just poking a lil fun. stickpoke

Street Songs is one of Rick's finest works. The Deluxe Edition of the album has an excellent concert on disc 2. All I have 2 say is "Sh!t, got damn...get off ur feet and jam!"

Prince "stole" the music for Girlfriend from James Mtume. That's Mtume's groove.
