Making a mix that flows together

Have you ever tried to create a mix cd using alternate versions of tracks, segues, and remixes to make the cd flow together like a real album? I like to edit the beginnings and endings of songs to make them flow together from one to another.. here's an example of what I'm talking about.

This has got a little bit of the original Come/Gold sequencing, some Chaos and Disorder from the same era, a "plastic" sounding vibe in the middle, then it relaxes into some downtempo music at the end to finish things off. Something interesting to note, the ending of Lemon Crush and the beginning of Muse 2 the Pharaoh flow together naturally... try it for yourself to see. Makes me think Muse was originally written during the Batman era (or it could just be a mistake/coincidence)

Sure...

These r based on the Glam Slam/Paisley Park setlist from 95/95. Love both The Gold Experience and Come so decided to mix them 2gether!

Whenever I make a mix I try to make it flow like a rel album. Here is a trick that works for me:

Pretend that it is an album/tape in the sense that it can hold about 5-8 songs on each side. That way you make groups of songs that have a strong start, a great finish, etc. It's easier to figure out the flow of 4 groups of 5 songs and then string them together for a total of 20 etc. Model your flow of the sequence/flow of 1999 or SOTT as an example of how to perfectly get a good flow for your mix.
