How Much Have You Spent on Prince and Why?

I have been reading about people's 3121 experiences and it is absolutely incredible to me how much money some of you all are spending to see Prince!

What is the most you've paid to see Prince or make another Prince purchase and why? The most I think I have paid is around $250 and that was for two non-NPGMC member tickets to a show. I did it because I wanted my sweetie to go with me. Was it worth it? It was worth it to me because we had great seats, I lived my Purple Rain dream (seeing The Time and Prince on the same stage) and a friend called while I was at the show and said she had a ticket for me to see the same show the next night. Do you have something to show for it? A program, ticket stubs, free Musicology cds, a tank top and a great memory to reflect on with someone I love.

I am asking because my circle swears I am a HUGE Prince freak, but I always tell them no ma'am/no sir, you need to get on Prince.org for the real deal folks!

I live on the east coast and went to 3121. All it really cost me was a ticket to the main show. Because I had to go for work I didn't pay for travel/lodging or food. I was able to eat at 3121, goto the main show and after show. I have the ticket stub, some photos, a chocolate cd & one of Prince's guitar picks (both given to me by Prince's people in front of some Orgers) and memories shared with some cool people.

Truth be told, I don't think I would have gone to 3121 if it weren't for work. It would have been over $2000 trip for me. Prince is a great artist and everything,but...

In 2003 I spent around $2500 to see Prince three times here in Australia. One of these tickets was $1000 by itself. This is because it included a seat onstage for the concert, and getting to meet Prince before the show. It was well worth it!! Could not have asked for more.
I would like to see Prince in Las Vegas, but I went there before he announced 3121, and it turns out I left the night that he started.

Now THAT was a bargain! Even I would have paid for that (and I put myself low on the Prince totem pole after reading threads on this site).

I wonder what other great purchases are out there?

I've been a Devoted Prince fan since 1984, I could not begin to total how much money I have spent on him, but I know one thing every Penny of it was worth it, nothing gives me as much pleasure as that man's music, nothing!

Well, I don't think anyone can compare to our Italian fam that came from Italy to Las Vegas and went to every show and after show for at least two months. I've done my share of traveling to see the man (3 times from Dallas to Vegas so far) but it ain't too many people can do what they do. They're really nice ladies too and I'm secretly jealous that they've got it like that. Cuz if I was independently wealthy and didn't have anything to do, I'd set up shop in Vegas myself. lol

[b]I went to the 3121 gift shop since I'm underage to get into the club. So I bought a shirt for $31.21, Symbol necklace $26.00 and posters $12.99 for 3. So add it up haha.

What she said. And to this day I continue to spend $$ on Prince. Now I have my priorities straight, and wouldn't take food out of my families mouth, for anyone, but when I have extra to spend, or heads up on upcoming concerts, etc..then I will save for what I want!! nod

i saw prince about six times throughout 2004, so seventy five bucks x 2 tickets a pop, six times...plus an aftershow, plus afterparty admission, plus some t-shirts and a program...however much that comes to, that's probably the most i ever spent on prince crap...and it was totally worth it. nod

Went from the UK to do 2 shows at 3121 over the New Year.

Was worth every penny and I really do think that I will never have another Prince experience to better it!

I've spent plenty also, but spent most in the last two years collecting memorobilia. I don't have a Prince room, but I do have plenty of stuff. I just spent a hefty amount on a recent ebay win from one of our own orgers. smile

But I also have made money from Prince merchandise.

I'm too afraid to think about it! I know good and well if I'd have put all that money in a interest bearing CD or MMA, I could be retiring for my 37 birthday instead of sitting here at the shop waiting on a client! razz

Right on! When I spend money on Prince music, or memorabilia, I'm treating myself. It's what I enjoy, so I don't mind spending the money. biggrin

I once paid $250. per ticket (2 tix) to see Prince in Atlantic City in 1998 because my Mom loves AC and wanted to go gamble while I was at the concert. But I wanted her to experience what I do when I go to a show because she always bitches about how much I spend on Prince, so I bought her a ticket. We had 4th row center section-aisle seats, which was practically front row, because the 1st three rows were almost under the stage, which was on risers. It was one of those Chaka-Larry-Prince shows; both Chaka and Prince fell on stage, and Prince broke his ankle.

What did I get out of it? My mom got to see why I love live Prince so much and I met the whole band in the lobby after they took Prince to the emergency room. We got our money's worth, and Mom still got to gamble. dice

I have seen Prince about 29 times-- including aftershows. I have had so much fun meeting other fans and just enjoying the experiences and adventures I've had. When this tour happens, I'll do it all again- that's the great thing about living in "Joisey"... I can do NYC, Philly, and hopefully NJ, too! nod

(I'm single, no kids- I'm free to just do whatever! wink )

Thanks for sharing your story chocolate! So, you were at that fateful show when Prince hurt himself? Did you notice when it happened?

Anyway, I'm glad you got to share the experience with your mom. I went with my man, and a friend to the Musicology tour, and my mom (who always rolled her eyes at my Prince obsession) said, "Maybe I wanted to go..." I was shocked! I didn't think she cared a thing about Prince. Too bad the show was already sold out. Maybe she'll be able to see him on his next tour.

My mom introduced me to Prince. She loves to hear my stories about concerts and things I acquire related to Prince. I think it would be great to spend some change taking her to a show in the city she lives in. It would only be right since she got my first Prince 45" and she introduced me to concerts (New Edition - age 8).

-It was subtle. It looked like a dance move, but he started grimacing and then they brought him a stool at 1st and he played sitting. Then the show was cut short- abruptly. I was told later on that a roadie had used an oil-based solution instead of a water-based one in the fog machine. eek

-I took my [then] fiance to one of the Musicology shows- 2nd row tix on my birthday- and he acted like an ASS. He complained later on that I "showed more passion for Prince than for him". Needless to say, he turned out to be a jerk about other stuff and we never got married....
Now I don't take guys to Prince concerts. I go with one girlfriend I call my "Road Dog". We actually met waiting in line for tix back-in-tha-day when U had to camp out for tix. fro lol

- After that, Mom had the nerve to say "Next time we ..." disbelief
That was a one time thing! wink

Wow! What a terrible experience. I was a little worried about my man not having a good time. He didn't really know any of the songs, and he had to endure watching his girlfriend scream madly for another man. lol Still, he had a good time, because he's a guitarist, and really appreciates Prince's guitar skills. He also liked it when I was dancing around to the music, because I was so caught up in Prince, that I didn't notice that my man's hands were ALL over me! lol So yeah, he had fun. wink
