Prince covers. Can U help? I'm tryin to compile a list of artists who have covered Prince tunes and had hits with them over the world.
Apart from the obvious "Nothin Compares 2U" (S O'Conner), "I feel 4 U" (Chaka Khan) can any1 think of any others. There have been a couple of dance tunes over here in the UK (Space Cowboy's version of"I would die 4U") but my brain has turned to mush lately and i can't think of any others at the moment. Many thanks to all Orgers Reality is an illusion

Just off the top of my head (though if you're looking for hits, these might not count):
"When you Were Mine", Cyndi Lauper "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man," Jordan Knight "Sign 'o' the Times," Simple Minds (very obscure) "When Doves Cry," The Be Good Tanyas "Kiss" Age of Chance "Kiss" Art of Noise w/ Tom Jones This is besides tribute albums and I assume you also mean covers of songs that Prince originally released, as opposed to songs by Prince that other artists made hits, because then you could include "Manic Monday" by the Bangles. Prince covers that were actually hits, hmmmm...
Me'lissa Morgan had a US number one R&B hit in 1986 with "Do Me Baby" Alicia Keys had a top 40 R&B hit in 2002 with "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" Tevin Campbell's version of "Shh" actually came out first, but that was an R&B radio hit in 1993. TLC reached number 43 with a cover of the Time's "Get It Up" (written by Prince) Ginuwine's version of "When Doves Cry" received some R&B airplay in 1997 The Hindu Love Gods had a top 40 modern rock hit with "Raspberry Beret" The Foo Fighters had a top 40 rock hit with "Darling Nikki" in '03 Jordan Knight garnered some top 40 airplay in '99 with his version of "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" And the Tom Jones/Art Of Noise version of "Kiss" made the US top 40 in 1988. I can't think of any British hits other than Space Cowboy's "Die 4 U," although I think the group M2M may have had a British hit with a dance cover of "Nothing Compares 2 U" in 1990. tina's live version of "let's pretend..." was a b-side to one of her singles also, her version of "baby, i'm a star" was aired quite a bit in a commerical (i forget which) | |
