Back in 82 someone told me about the infamous L.A. Times Robert Hilburn interview with Prince where he stated "1. Im not gay...2. My real name is Prince.." and so on. Article titled, The Renegade Prince. To get it I had to rely on a friend who had a paper route who actually delivered one L.A. Times to a household blocks away(I did not reside in L.A) so never got that paper. We went to said persons house and I knocked on the door asking if they still had the Calendar section from Sunday and if I could have it. This was Tuesday. She looked around and found it strewn on her floor and let me have it. All the while me and my friend are at the screen door waiting for her. How nice she was to give it to me.After that I would walk a mile to the 7-11 to get the Sunday Times for the Calendar section on Saturday nights ( along with Hagen Daz). They had a long running letters response section about the Prince article that lasted for several weeks. I was hooked on Calendar then.


Once I tried to be mack daddy with the instrumental version of God that was played during the bedroom sex scene in Purple Rain. I had the vinyl import version. After a dip in the pool I took my gf to my room while my parents were in theirs. I put the record on and did what comes naturally cept awkwardly back then. Dork city.


When Another Lonley Xmas came out I was so into it that I got into a fight with a friend during a late get together because I kept playing the emotional part he sings at the end trying to get everyone into it..they were busy drinking coolers and brew and jabberin about something and playing the guitar etc that words were bandied about all because they wouldnt pay fucking attention to Another Lonely Xmas


In 95 afte r seing a concert on Xmas Eve, my wife and two friends were on the way out of the parking lot of the ampitheater. This rnb station 92.3, was playin Xmas hits by established artist. I stated that they NEED to get on the ball and play Another Lonely Xmas...it came on the next song. I don tknow bu t Xmas sort of gets me melancholy and when the song came on I was trippin. Just feelin the shit almost cryin. I didnt care. It was a great moment for us all.


My first Prince concert was Purple Rain tour. I wore black parachute pants with a purple bandana tied around my leg. I wore black smurf boots along with a black trenchcoat from Harris'. Lawd.


When I first meet someone I usually slide in a question asking about how they feel about Prince music. I kind of decipher their openess and music range by their answer. Almost like a litmus test.


Whe I worked at Carls Jr way back when PR was about to be released, in the break room I made signs saying PR is coming...then when it was about to be released I put up the Promo poster ads from th enewspaper in the breakroom.


In one of the seven times I had seen it on the big screen, I took a tape recorder into th e theater and recorded th e mopvie Purple Rain.


I can recall what Iwas going through in my life good and bad when Prince records were released.


I wrote my own reviews of PR, the concert, the album and movie. Also the record Parade


I taped the radio ads for PR and Casey Kasem stating Prince was no.1 with WDC.

Go ahead and rag and laugh hehe, Im ok now. Phew...absolution is a wonderful thang.

I also purchased the PR songbook just to have it. I had-have an acoustic guitar and had no intention of learning it, I just wanted to have the tablature. I let two people use it and the last person who I left it with back in 19889 claims they dont have it. Lie.

Yea, it changed mine too. I'm not sure what night I went (I don't have any tix stubs) but I VIVIDLY remember swaying back & forth w/ the entire Oakland Coliseum, singing Annastesia to the top of our lungs - DAMN, that was an experience. And to be my FIRST P concert?!!!
