just watching the Purple Rain TV broadcast [how stunning was the Baby'm a star' performance!] and the Lovesexy gigs makes you realise that to get the best out of him he needs a mission, a challenge and a sense of purpose.IMHO his albums that mixed sex &/or religion i.e. TRC, Lovesexy, Dirty Mind , 1999 etc show him at his creative best. Everything else is just a pleasant listen!.

not really. It's a familiar theme for him, almost cliché, but he's successfully explored other subjects also, imho.
