I went to a Love Sexy Concert that was over 3 hours long. He really funked it up. Love Sexy was the best one for me.

From the actual tours that I attended, I would say Purple Rain then Musicology.
But from the video, I would say LoveSexy has to be the greatest of all. I wasn't able to attend the show but just watching the show on video was spectacular, so I can only imagine it actually being there. Plus the musicianship of that tour is totally underrated IMO. [Edited 2/21/07 9:14am] I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

[Edited 2/21/07 9:14am] oh it was spectacular. video (especially the not-great video copy i have) does not do it justice, of course. the lights alone were amazing, not to mention the ever-evolving stage (rotating sheila!). i've wondered if i was biased, since lovesexy was the first time i saw prince, but judging by this thread, i guess not. the next time i saw him, in march '93, was probably my least favorite tour. that was in part because of the venue, radio city music hall (i was waaay in the back). gold was the most exciting, because it was in a little club and i was only about 20 feet away from the guy. hard to judge that one, in part because i didn't know most of the music. by the end, it was pretty gross, since we were packed in so tight, i couldn't even put my arms down. oh and some guy grabbed my face from behind when mayte threw a magazine that almost landed on me. but i was still in heaven. musically speaking, ONA was the most impressive. musicology was awesome, especially the acoustic set. but i felt it kinda ran out of steam in the second half. sorry if this was long, but in conclusion, lovesexy is the one, till my day is done!

Yes, you did: the CONTROVERSY tour ! Certainly not the Musicology tour (although the two Fillmore try-out gigs are brilliant) One of the best indeed

I had a CD, before the show, entitled "The Live Experience" which has The Jam, The Ride, Shhhhh and more so i kinda new some of the material he was gonna do. I think the only oldies he played were I Love U In Me and Pink Cashmere. The rest was all Come/Exodus/Gold material. I was at Wembley, too. Sunday March 5th, I believe. Lovesexi imo was a bit too theatrical and alot of the music looked outsourced ie the guitar parts P performed later all by himself on the ONA tour ((never went but ONA seems the best from what ive seen on vid and heard from ppl) was played by the talented Mico Weaver. I also went to one of the later shows at Wembley arena in March 95 i remember him playing 7&TMBGITW as well as the other 2 songs mentioned, these were the only ones i had on record. I remember him coming on w/mayte on what seemed a conveyer belt to perform endorphin machine i was like wow, and then Tommy flew above the crowd suspended during his keyboard solo-it was musically very solid

You all vote for the Lovesexy tour? Really? Never seen it live, only on video. Toronto & I think Tokyo. I saw the 5 Jam of the Year shows, live & one show during the realease of "Soul".
Out of all the shows on video that I've watched (official & bootleg, at lease 1 show from every tour up to & including Jam Of the Year) plus live shows I've attended, I'd have to say that "Sign of the Times" was my fav. The story, props, music, band, dancing..... it was Prince at his finest! [Edited 2/21/07 18:47pm] "Be glad you are free, free to change your mind, free to go most anywhere anytime!"

I've see Prince in concert about 9 times in my life.
The 1999/Triple-Threat tour was by far the best.

Lovesexy. Because Well. Even though I never went to that tour. I 've seen so many videos that tell me that this is the best tour.

I saw the first night of the North American leg of Lovesexy in Minneapolis. It was probably the most disappointing show I’ve ever attended, which isn’t to say it was poor: It just didn’t meet my admittedly elevated expectations. I’d seen the SOTT concert film and I’d read the press from the European Leg of the tour in Melody Maker and the NME, so I was prepared for something quite special. Instead we saw a rather flat show, particularly during the first set. The second set was more lively and the PR hits were dependably exciting (hadn’t been played to death at that time, of course), but overall it was a rather muted performance.
Perhaps the tour might have accumulated a little off-time rust, or perhaps it was just an off night. I appreciate that no one can hit a home run every time at the plate. Whatever the cause, I wasn’t alone in my disappointment – almost everyone on the bus (I went as part of a tour package) expressed dissatisfaction. The warmest thing I heard anyone say was that the sound was good, and it was in fact the best sounding show I’ve ever heard in an arena to this day – crystal clear vocals, every instrument distinct. I do wish I could have seen the SOTT tour more than any other – I think that was the best band he ever had, and he was touring behind stronger material than the Lovesexy outing IMO. I see so many times lovesexy,
I wonder if it's from watching the performence on tape or realy seeing the show live. I still think it was a wonderfull tour, but, that in the round stage wasn't that great, I saw it in Antwerp: the sound was realy bad, awfull, and often you had no clue where prince was. On tape you haven't got that problem, sound A++ and the camera folows prince where-ever he goes. I saw it in Rotterdam, there the stage was way to small for the stadium, and it was an in the round stage use as a frontal stage, plus I was to high in the tribunes to see or hear anything.

Missed it myself. Shhhheeeeet Caught him on the nude tour, nowhere near as good i really wanted to see the nude tour...i know it's not his best, but i love that period between lovesexy and graffiti bridge - the clothes, the hair, the batman stuff, the weirdness - the tour footage i've seen looks a little overly unhinged, but i still think i would have loved it. I saw a taped show from the Nude Tour and I wasn't impressed.

1) Musicology (When was the last time “EVERYONE” was talking about Prince? He sold out the LA 7 or 8 times)
2) Diamonds and Pearls (I have only seen video clips but it looked CRAZY) 3) LoveSexy was tight (Bad outfits and very little people cared much about P at that time but good show) 4) Purple Rain was large and everyone wanted to see the show I have seen LoveSexy, Jam of the Year, Rainbow Children and Musicology and Musicology killed all of them put together…. JMO Prime aka The Kid

probably the lovesexy tour, his singing has always gotten better with age. Here he is still young enough to do all his moves and just a few years removed from his greatest commercial triumph. I've heard from people that he put on horrible shows during his battles with his record company in which he would play but have the audience sing the songs. I saw lovesexy, I liked musicology better strictly because he is more down to earth, more familiar, less out there and more accessible than he used to be. But any of the shows from the lovesexy or around that period were probably his prime.

I really hate to say this but the Parade tour still kicks my ass (in a good way ). It was tooooo funky!!!! And it was the biggest tribute to James Brown anyone could've paid.
But then again Lovesexy and Purple Rain was fucking amazing too. Damn, this is a tough one. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

I loved the Musicology tour beyond words, I keep my ticket stub in my wallet where your ID is suppose to go. It makes me smile everytime I see it. I took my 21 year old son with me, he was not a fan at the time, just use to listening to him growing up. Made me proud when I actually heard him singing along, and complimenting the band. He has thanked me many times over for the opportunity of seeing prince live.

It has to be the ONA tour for me. The smaller venues were made the whole experience much more intimate than his stadium tours and musically it was impressive - 'real music by real musicians'.

Hmmm, good question. I'll rank the ones I've seen.
1. Purple Rain - Biggest thing in the world. Enough energy to light a city. Gotta go with PR. Saw it 5 times 2. Musicology - Wow, what a band. Loved the stage. Never a dull moment. Saw it 3 times 3. Tamar Tour - Never saw anyone play the guitar like that before. Man, I need to get to Las Vegas QUICK 4. Lovesexy - Loved it then. Watched my Dortmund video the other day. I was actually disappointed. The show hasn't aged well, IMHO 5. ONA - Some real high moments; some dragged-out moments. I loved the soundcheck, but can't get into jazz 6. Jam of the Year/Hit n Run - Saw two or three of these shows and can't remember a single song from any of them. All I know is he DIDN'T play "The Holy River", which is my favorite song of all time.

I've seen four shows. They were all great shows and I would rank them as: 1. Lovesexy. 2.Musicology 3. Act 4. Jam of the year. I saw Lovesexy in Norway, it was at a outside Icehockey stadium. There were about 33.000 people there(almost sold out) and the stage was not in the round but at one end. I was close to the stage and the overall energy was extraordinary. Also, what stood out was that it´s by far the loudest Prince concert I've been too and the sound quality was by far the best. Oh...and it rained! Prince had to cut the concert a little short...I remember once when he was dancing he fell badly(big part of the stage was very wet) but tried to hide it by making the fall into a split! He did it well so maybe some people didnt notice! I am so happy this didnt happen again at the Superbowl. I guess the split would probably not have been an option
