Were any prince songs "banned" by your parents when growing up? My dad tried to "ban" Sexy MF at home, but it didn't stick! Also, I just realised I have had Lovesexy stolen 3 times over the years and had to buy it again. What albums have people taken a "liking" to of yours over the years? Is there a most stolen record out there? Or a most banned song record out there?

I never had anything banned by my mom, Prince or not. But I have had to replace Purple Rain and Controversy after they "disappeared" on me.

Well it wasn't a Prince cd, but I had to replace my copy of Red, Hot and Blue like 3 times in bout a 1 yrs time.

I've had to replace "The Hits disc 1 and 2", "The Gold Experience" (twice), the " Hate U" maxi-single, the "Letitgo" single, and the "Girl 6" soundtrack. That was the last time I ever let someone borrow my car CD visor; last time I put the original Prince CDs in the car also. Now, I burn them and keep the burned copies in the car. I still get antsy when people go through my CD case. Before they get to the Prince section, I always say, "You are not allowed to talk shit about Prince until after you have passed his section; you are also not allowed to make any smart ass comments or ask any stupid questions while in said section. You can not borrow anything from aformentioned section; I will just burn you what you want, so just point or write it down. You must abide by these rules are you will be denied access to the Prince collection." Prince stuff is too expensive and many times too hard to find, so there's no way I'm loaning out my stuff. I will hunt that person down if I have to.

In 1988, at the wreckastow, my mom said that I couldn't bring Lovesexy into the house, that she didn't want that in her house.
When I brought Purple Rain into the house, she forced me to give it to a friend. When I got Parade for some reason, she didn't say anything and at least I have that in lp.
But, Christmas 1991 and Christmas,1992 she gave me Diamonds and Pearls and My Name Is Prince cd's.

at a New Years Eve party someone stole half of my 1999 cd. (this was when it came in 2 cd's.)

I've been a fan of Prince since the early 80's, but my mom's and some of my friend's attitude toward Prince some of the time, kept me from being a hardcore fan, and I regret missing the Parade and Lovesexy tours, but Prince came to my hometown in 1983 and didn't come back until Jan. 1998, so part of it was because of this.

I had tickets to see him in either 1993 or 4, I can't remember in Sunrise, Fl. but my uncle died on that day, plus Everyone was on me saying "you're going all that way to see Prince?, Prince? Another regret in Prince history.

I have a very strong feeling that I were a Prince fan (as I am now) when I was younger, I probably would have been banned from listening to the majority of my dad's "Purple Rain" soundtrack... I've read the lyrics, they're pretty dirty for the most part... but that's Prince for you.

The video "1999" was on a videotape my dad made of all of these MTV videos from the 80's (the era when they had REALLY GOOD ones, unlike the crap made these days... at least that's what my dad says)... they also included 3 Billy Idol songs (for some reason, when I was 3, I was really into him, I don't know why not... cuz I personally think he's crazy these days), 3 Bangles hits (pretty close to 1999 on the tape, if I remember correctly) and many others. 1999 was actually one I didn't care for as much as say the 3 Bangles songs (Hazy Shade of Winter, Walk like an Egyptian and Manic Monday- "Christopher's" greatest work)... and I'm talking about age 13-16 here, the last time I watched the videoes. On one site where I get my classic Prince videos (can't give the name so I can keep it, heh), I saw 1999 again and liked it more just cuz 1999 was an interesting year for me, full of ups and downs.

But that's beyond the point. If I were into Prince as much as I was into Billy Idol back then, my dad wouldn't have let me listen to his "Purple Rain" soundtrack for the obvious reasons (it's also the only Prince album we own as of yet). Even if I were 16-17, I still think there'd still be a little ban on that CD... but my dad burned the last 2 (actually the two-parter "I will Die 4 U" and "Baby I'm a Star"... not "Purple Rain", which is technically last).

I saw "Purple Rain" around that age (16-17), so I don't think it would have been huge problem now that I think about it.

No. Not only was I already "legal" when For You was released, I was smart enough to listen on headphones around my parents.

nope. my dad really didn't mind me listening to any of prince's stuff.

Oh, and as far as my Prince records getting stolen, someone robbed my friends car and took all of the CDs they could find. Unfortunately, my Crystal Ball disc III was among them. My friend felt so bad that he bought me a whole new set, so I have 2 of each of the CDs (except for disc III).

my parents never censored what I listen...my parents talks the filthiest words I ever heard...so parental advisory is like normal language

Well UNLIKE some people, I wasnt even born when Prince came out hehe. SO when I was like 5 or 6 singing, "I met a girl named Nikki .. " of course my mom had to ban something ..

The only song that could not be played in the house, at least while my parents were around, was "Darling Nikki", my parents lost their minds. But they had no problem with me playing "Wonderful A*&", they thought that was cute parents.
